Egg Visa card purchase protection

I recently purchased a mobile phone using my Egg Visa card. Said mobile phone was then accidentally damaged a month later.

I have home contents insurance that includes accidental damage to mobile phones but the excess is £200 and the phone only cost £129 so there would be no point in claiming. Therefore, I thought I would make a claim under the purchase protection insurance offered by my Egg Visa card. I looked at the 'key facts' on the Egg Website and thought I would be covered since none of the 5 'Significant or unusual Exclusions or Limitations' applied.

However, some way into the claim process I have been told that they will not pay out because the mobile phone is covered by another policy (i.e. my home contents). The relevant 'insurance-ese' appears further down in the online policy document:
Coverage is excess of any other applicable insurance or indemnity the Eligible Person may have. Coverage is limited only to those amounts not covered by any other insurance or indemnity, up to the original purchase amount. In no event will this coverage apply as contributing insurance. This insurance is excess of all other valid and collectable insurance clauses found in other insurance or indemnity language.

So even though I do not want to make a claim under my contents insurance due to the excess, because it is technically covered then Egg are allowed not to pay out. This makes the purchase protection useless for me as I expect that in almost every case my contents policy will cover the same loss and so Egg will always have their get out clause.

Is this typical for credit card purchase protection policies or is there a card that allows you to claim regardless of similar cover under other insurance policies that you hold? (NB I am NOT suggesting that I want to claim on more than one policy for a given loss, I just want to be able to claim against the purchase protection rather than my home contents)

So let's quote them shall we?
not covered by any other insurance or indemnity, up to the original purchase amount

Up to the original purchase amount - Your purchase was £129. Your excess is £200. Your purchase amount is not covered by your home contents.

So you can claim from Egg. Good luck however, with finding someone their side capable of understanding this apparently incredibly simple term.
