Got £5+k for a £300k mortgage.
Sound about right?
Sounded great to me!0 -
I just phoned them up *again* to be told that they had completed checking accounts, so if they had not written to you already then its not because you are in the queue! The guy had a quick look at the account details and agreed with me that he *thought* that i was eligible, so is sending an email to the appropriate department for them to review it.0

Woo Hoo. The chickens are hatching!! Finally been told over the telephone that we are indeed eligible and that the department concerned is calculating the amount and payment will be made with 28 days. What a good way to start our holidays!!! I must have made a dozen phone calls to them. I have been told that i definitely was not eligible and fobbed off so many times i am just so thrilled that we should have a couple of thousand pounds heading our way. Go me!!0

sorry to double post but i have finally received a verbal confirmation of how much goodwill payment that the halifax are offering and it appears to be a full thousand pounds less than i had loosely calculated. It occured to me then that perhaps there is an end date after which they don't offer compensation? We closed out mortgage with them in something like march of '11 and i presumed that i would get the 1% difference from when we went onto the svr (July 09) through to Mar 11. I have asked for them to include the calculation workings when they get round to sending the cheque so will know more when i see that. If anyone has already received this info, could you possibly let me know the cut off date when the calculation runs to? Thanks *so* much peeps.0

I have been following this thread from when the announcment was made. I called like everyone and got lots of mixed responses....yes you do fall into the goodwill payment, no you don't, we can't check etc etc.
I eventually discovered that the Halifax ran a computer check on everyone they thought should get a goodwill payment. I was told that people who were entitled did not get recognised.....for some reason. Not sure the computer scan fond everyone. I was one of them.
I then logged my old mortgage roll number with them and was told that within 28 days i would hear. I called today and they said there was a note on my file stating a cheque for £2915 was posted today.
If you have still not heard from the Halifax and are unsure, call them, register you mortgage account number and ask them to investigate!
We took out a mortgage in December 2006 (£162,000) and closed the account December 2010. We went on the SVR in Jan 2009 and stayed on it until we closed the account.
Good Luck.0 -
Has anyone one else been told they are not eligible for any refund or goodwill payment because they were sent the revised 2007 terms and conditions?
I took out a 2 year fixed rate mortgage with Halifax in August 2007. I was sent a mortgage offer on 13th August 2007 which states on page 3 ' we have set a limit on the Halifax Standard Variable Rate so that it will not be more than 2% above Bank of England base rate. We can change the 2% limit but, before we do , we will give 30 days notice to customers who pay interest at Halifax STV, a discounted rate or an added rate and are subject to an early repayment charge...'
They didn't send me any other offer or any terms and conditions booklet so i was thinking of ringing them again. I feel like i'm being fobbed off by them as they tell me different reasons why i am not eligible every time i ring!0 -

You need to phone them up and don't take no for an answer! I was fobbed off several times with this, and the explanation was that if i hadn't been flagged on their system then i wasn't eligible. But there was no flag to say that i had been checked and i wasn't. Persevere ... you still might not be eligible but get them to tell you that in writing! Then you can request they send you a copy of any letters they sent you to prove that they told you about the change.0 -
I'm still in battle with Halifax over this. I was told I wasn't eligible as my mortgage t & cs changed when I took a further advance in 2008. None of my paperwork relating to the FA mentions t & cs changing - in fact, quite the opposite.
After several pointless phone calls in which I was told several different things, including that I had 'signed to agree to the new terms', and following Halifax not being able to provide proof of any correspondance to me detailing changes to the t & cs, let alone anything I've signed, I put my complaint in writing.
It's now been 8 weeks, I've had the standard 'we need another 4 weeks', and now the 'I know we said we'd have a response within 8 week,s but we're still waiting on information' so I've now referred to the Ombudsman.
Don't give up!!! All this has taught me is that Halifax don't know their bum from their elbow. :mad:0 -

To obtain the further advance. You would have signed an offer for the funds. In accepting the offer, your mortgage would have been updated to reflect the terms and conditions prevailing at the time. These are revised fairly often to reflect changes in the law or a change in policy. A copy of would have been sent with your copy of the mortgage offer.
So will be interesting to see how Halifax respond to your complaint.0 -

Do you by any chance work for the Halifax "customer service" line??!
See my previous reply to you - post 373. I've stated several times in this thread that my FA offer stated the terms of my existing mortgage would apply and no new terms were provided - several others are in the same position.
I agree, it'll be interesting to see their reply.0
