Possible JSA sanction advice

My husband received a letter stating he will be receive Contribution JSA from 31 Jan. Last week he received another letter asking why he resigned and he could be sanctioned for up to 26 weeks. Everything already explained to Job Centre. What happens if they decide to do this as we have 2 children really worried about this. He did not take decision to resign lightly but due to alleged misconduct he was advised to resign as only chance of working in industry again. Thanks for any advice.

If he has left "without just cause" he could be sanctioned for up to 26 weeks.

They may ask if he looked for an alternative job etc.

If sanctioned he would have to try an application for hardship, Child Tax Credits apply now for children.

Hi thanks for advice. He was verbally offered another job but could now be a while before he can start. He has an interview tomorrow as we cannot afford to wait with family to support. I am also looking but needs to be school hours.

re: child tax credits. We currently receive £8.00 per week from them but when he phoned them they can't do anything until we have the P45.

    Hardship payments and Jobseeker's Allowance

A hardship payment is a reduced amount of Jobseeker's Allowance which you may be able to get if you have been refused Jobseeker's Allowance, or your benefit has been stopped, because of doubts about whether you are available for and actively seeking work. You can also get them if you are waiting for the Jobcentre Plus office to decide whether you meet the jobs seeking conditions or if you have been sanctioned (see under Jobseeker's Allowance and sanctions).
If you want more information about hardship payments, and how to apply for them, you should consult an experienced adviser, for example, at a Citizens Advice Bureau. To search for details of your nearest CAB, including those that can give advice by email, click on openinnewwin.gifnearest CAB.

Thank you ILuvCats. Would we be entitled to Housing benefit until hubby gets another job. We are council tenants. He has never received benefits in his life and just wants to get back to work.

Did you claim HB / CTB @ the same time as your JSA??

If you did not, you''ll have to get them from your council.

Yes anyone on a low income can apply for HB/CTB. Get in touch with your local council and get the application forms filled in asap.
