Here is one option, choose between Intel and AMD then go through the options. Their base unit has a 500GB hard drive which is ample for storing photos, though an extra £26 would give you two 500GB hard drives. If you choose Intel go for an Intel Pentium Processor.

You could put the spec together then see if a local PC shop can get close to the price, which will have the convenience of being able to easily return it for repairs.

You can have the integrated graphics and sound then add them later if you want or need to. Images will look better with a dedicated graphics card and a 512MB card adds £24 and a 1GB card adds £34

It may be worth posting the spec you decide on in case anyone can spot any errors or cost effective improvements

    Novatech is another option

Any basic pc would be OK for your needs.
This needs windows installing on it £176 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/253549

This one ready to run W7 £233, not much ram but ddr3 memory is very cheap now if you wanted to add more -2gb~£15

How come pcs have got so expensive? Dell used to sell pcs with monitors for less than £300.
I did a wee search for the op and I'm having real bother finding a decent base unit for less than £300.

The best i could up with (and it's just ok)
