Urgent! Housing benefit-not paid

Hi i need some urgent advice for a friend.
He at the moment gets housing benefit paid into his bank account every fortnight then it goes straight to his landlord via direct debit.
it hasn't gone into the bank and has now bounced. he will now be charged by his bank to make matters worse
can he claim the bank charges back from the housing/council? as this isn't his fault? Thank You.

First he would need to find out why the benefit didnt get paid. Usually you have to send in payslips etc on a quarterly basis, so if he hasnt done so a stop will be put on untill he does this. Or if he got sent a letter in which he didnt respond to this will also put a stop on.
So you might find it was his fault it was stopped for now in that case he wont be able to claim the charges back0 -

Hi he hasn't recieved a letter for anything,he is on jobseekers and has been for over 12 months, he will ring them when it opens,thanks.0 -

Where I work, yes on occasions we do refund bank charges if it is our fault the claimant recd the bank charges. Your friend needs to find out why he hasn't been sent a letter and provide proof to the local authority of his charges0 -

Hi just found out that all our town didn't get paid due to computer error
Thanks for your help he will look into claiming back the charges.
