Second hand laptop

I would like a laptop to use on my long train journey to work - really just for typing. Can I get something second hand that will last a couple of years? What would I have to pay for something decent? I'm not bothered about battery life as plenty of power sockets on train I get. I don't want to waste money - would rather save for new if I have to. Can you recommend a seller - I don't know enough to pick something out of ebay. Thanks.

    What about buying a netbook??

Is it worth the risk of buying a s/h laptop??

You can get a netbook for around £150
  • Hi,

what about something from Argos or Tesco ebay shops.

They say they are refurbished, but most are brand new, and you get a 12 month warranty.

Thanks. I had looked at netbooks but thought they looked a bit flimsy for typing on. I'll certainly have another look.

Have a look at Bigpockets, they sell ex corporate laptops.
Got a Dell D610 from them some time ago, going strong.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

If youre typing on a train I would say a netbook would be best. Theyre very portable. If I were you, I would go to a store to try typing on one and see if the keyboard is big enough for you. If you really are just typing you could get any of these cheap notebooks. You can use the filter function to select the "less than 250 pounds".

    Hope this helps!

I've sold hundreds of Dell D610's, never had one come back. Good rock solid laptops.

There's a kind of "rule of thumb" that has come to light in the last few years. Basically if its glossy and shiny and stuffed with loads of memory and a big hard drive and costs less than a Macbook, its an underpowered pile of cack that'll be lucky to see the 12 months guarantee out.
