DLA and MOTABILITy over 65

DLA and MOTABILITy over 65
my husband is 65 next year
Ive just read that over 65 he will not get the HRM
currently he has a motability car.
Does that mean he will have to give it back

  • Probably best to check with Motorbility, but they say that someone already receiving DLA before their 65th birthday will be OK on their website:

If he has a Motabilty car before he is 65 then he will continue on the scheme for 'ever'.

    Enjoy.

Not after reading the proposals for the new benefit he won't.

They are looking to stop ALL DLA claims at age 65. Then if there is still a care need he should claim AA. Any mobility need after 65 will not be considered. Put it down to old age for most and normal.

The reason it seems, is that it is unfair for people over 65 who develop mobility needs can't have anything, car, nothing. Yet those aged 64 can get it for life.

    Totally unfair I say.

The Motability site is referring to the law as it stands today. With the new proposals coming in within the next couple of years they will have to amend their website.

Yes, thanks for bringing it to our attention - I had no idea that the ConDems were considering that.

I think that we shall drop our car off at the Palace of Westminster and put the keys through their letterbox at the end of the lease.
