Hi GeordieB....
Ahhh but that's the problem you see, I remember my ex's friends complaining about people that said "I didn't have a dessert" and laughing about it... it kinda makes you paranoid!
Guessing your ex was a jerk, and by the sound of it, so were his/her friends :rotfl::rotfl:
also, they were clearly the greedy ****** that purposely ordered the most expensive dishes knowing someone else was gonna pick up some of their tab0 -

Hi Lucy
just butting in but i can give you budgets that is ok to live on if in serious debt - ie an iva
you may be surprised as to what the minimum is...
Hi there, I am not in serious debt at all, I just don't want to be in debt full stop. What is an IVA?
I am trying to stick to a new budget and taking note from the OPs here that spend so little yet get so much out of their monthly expenditure. It is amazing what people live on and I am trying to customise my new learnings to my own way of life.Debt Bust LBM 01/01/2013 - [STRIKE]£11,115.28[/STRIKE] £10,593.81

OK so going back to an earlier post of mine re: having birthday lunches to attend but not having enough in my new budget...
It feels REALLY embarrassing to speak up when the bill arrives and it is split between so many of you and you end up paying £10 more than you ate. No one else seems to care but I find it very hard to say "Oh but mine only cost £10.00" when everyone else is quite happily putting £20 each on the table to split the total cost
I am so tempted not to go so that I don't have to put myself in that position. OR I could just order something a little more expensive and get value for my money but then again the bill could be much higher and I will still end up paying more
Why aren't people understanding enough to ask what everyone had and total it up that way instead of just splitting the bill equally ....:(
This happened a couple of years ago at my work. A group of us went for a 'cheap' lunch and when we split the bill it was far more than we'd really planned because one person in particualr didn't eat from the set menu (like most of us did) plus ordered the two most expensive things on the menu and more drinks than everyone else.
We were all too polite to say anything, and turned out when we left (and through a couple of diff conversations) that we were all peeved about splitting the bill and having to bascially pay more due to someone elses selfishness/thoughtlessness but were all too embarassed to suggest we all paid for what we'd eaten plus a reasonable service charge/tip.
Given that situation again, I would deff speak up.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Hi there
Interesting point you make, I have a water meter and I have been paying £47.50 p/m up until recently. I have argued with the water board for so long, I had them out to visit my premises to check for water leeks etc but they found no fault! I have now asked to be billed as per usage rather than per month so shall see what happens when I get my next bill. I live alone, washing machine on once per week, shower once or twice a day and I have hardly any washing up to do!!!
Thats interesting. I have about the same as you and I am on a water meter. My last bill over a 3 month period was £36 which works out around £12 a month.
How you can be paying £35 a month more than me I dont know!Mortgage: [STRIKE]Jan 11 - £91830 [/STRIKE][STRIKE] Jan 12 - £89'199[/STRIKE] May 14 - £69'999 Car Loan: [STRIKE]Jan 11 - £3658 [/STRIKE] July 12 - £0! Credit Card: [STRIKE] Jan 11 - £3300 Jan 12 - £2250 [/STRIKE] Oct 13 - £0

Re Birthday meal - I would just say 'mine came to 9.50' or whatever and just put it on the table - also I never got into rounds.
Or befoe you go suggest each pays for their own as tings are getting tighter for everyone.
A good time woud be your own Birthday - then you're in a good position to say - as its ressession time don't you think we ought to downgrade or stop these Birthday presents? And only pay for our own meals? I'll bet some of the other's wuld be relieved.
Or you could use the excuse of saving for something - holiday etc - which is a legitimate excuse.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -

I went for a meal out with my ex colleagues while on maternity leave. Being on maternity leave, I didn't have much money, so was very careful what I ordered and how many drinks I had. When the bill came, even though we had asked them to split into our various groups, they didn't. And on top of that half the table were drinking bottles of wine between them. They then split the bill between 7 of us and we were charged a lot more than 1 main course and a soft drink!
Me being on a budget, turned around and said mine is £9 ,here is £1 tip. The two ladies next to me only had diet cokes, so their bills are only £x with a tip if they want to give one. We are not paying for the bottles of wine none of us consumed.
The girls next to me were so grateful that I had stuck up for them. An ex friend who was at this meal, very drunk, said I only had 1 glass of wine! We said, oh no, you had a whole bottle to yourself! and then some!
So definitely worth standing up for yourself.0 -
One of the reasons i don't socialise anymore. I intensely dislike going out for meals that have been organised by other people, and being told what i have to spend or eat, ( set menu ). As i don't have any spare cash for socialising anyway, it does'nt make much difference now.But the last meal i went to, i chose my own food, and used a 50% off voucher. I think it created some bad feeling, as everyone clearly wished they were having my meal, ( which was gorgeous ). Suffice it to say, i was told i would'nt be invited out socially, again, and i believe there were nasty things said about me, after i'd left.
But not everyone has up to £50 to spend on a night out. My meal cost less than £10 including my drink, and it really irratates me , because i know there are some people who will drink one or two bottles of wine, quite easily, on their own.

well talking about vouchers to be used for money off at a restaurant. I am trying to organise a mum's night off, for after Mother's Day in April, and I keep checking out the offers I receive from Ask and Prezzo. Main Meal and starter for £10, or buy 1 main meal and get second for only 1p.
I am still waiting for the percentage off or buy 1, get 1 free. May end up at Pizza Hut at this rate...lol but I don't like it there as it is too rushed. Maybe Pizza Express.
What I was trying to say is you can rejoin the planet, we don't all want to spend upwards of £50 for a night out.0 -
I know, it just means i'll be eating out on my own :rotfl:
Got some two for one pizza express vouchers in the paper yesterday, if you'd like one Aesop?
Most of the main restaurants like La Tasca's etc, always have some deal on their website. Just decide where you want to eat, and check out their website. :rotfl:Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?
