ok last thing from me I promise
(well 3 things actually)
please come over and join us on the giving up smoking thread it has changed my life I haven't smoked since the beginning of the year and my success is solely down to the thread. I promise you its nowhere as difficult asw we are led to believe. just come over and see no obligation to give up lots of ppl join the thread before deciding. I can honestly say this has been the best decision I have made for a long time

secondly Aldi/Lidl really reassess your prejudices! there was a study done last year that was published in the Independent which looked at the quality of the good sold in the supermarkets and Aldi came 1st, Lidl 2d & Waitrose & M&S 3rd with the big 4 after that
finally (I here you say) re frugality getting you down. I think when you are in debt it ebbs and flows sometimes it feels really good and other times you are crying in a dark room in fear of turning on a light for what it will cost you and in every direction you look things are the same _pale_ however this does go once youa re out of debt. I did find originally that when I became debt free (end of Oct 2010) that I couldn't get out of that frame of mind and would have a massive barnie with my oh & ds if they left a light on or didn't eat an apple down to the stem. But now I have found a balance and its really good. I still look for bargain and reduce our costs as far as possible & when I want to I spend the money we have earnt. I was gutted in Jan when I had to blow my savings on considerable work to my car but a month & a half later my saving are £250 shy of what they were before and we have just got back from a 10 holiday in Morocco all paid for in for cash.
It does get better just keep going xDF as at 30/12/16

please don't judge others - we all have to cut our cloth accordingly and maybe this is all the op can afford right now. I actually applaud their resourcefulness :money:
Thanks.I don't see the point in buying expensive food when

b) I have a mortgage to pay.

I keep my 4 yr old son and myself on just £23 per week for everything after rent and bills! This time last year I had a whole £31!
This scrimping living has been going on for some three years now, and with costs going up all the time I dread where we will be financially in 6 mths time!
This really is all I have left after paying rent, C/Tax, elec gas water, he gets all he requires, and thus I generally eat once per day for three days per week now, the rest of the time I just drink a lot of water to feel full!
I may even lose my part-time job due to inability to concentrate! Saw docs and he just blithely suggested that I eat more! WITH WHAT!
All I can say is, despite what the papers will insist on saying re single moms, it simply isnt the case that choosing to bring a life into the world is an easy option, I would not change this for the world, but do wish I had more to offer my son!
Thank the good being above for Freecycle is all I can say!0 -
This is a great thread!!
IN our household (2 adults and a toddler) we have £350 a month but this is for food, petrol and anything else!! Although we do also get £10 per week child tax credit and £80 pm child benefit which helps. So we are really struggling! We got get paid on friday and im going to draw out the cash and try and budget as best we can! Its so hard though and we often end up with no money after 2 weeks!!!
Im going to trawl through the boards today for meal ideas and keeping costs down. Any suggestions would be greatfully recievedTime to stop wasting money and start saving some!! :T0 -
Mibs: That's probably not healthy, no. I assume you're already going for the reduced-offers food in the supermarkets, but have you considered asking local chippies etc for their waste food towards the end of the night? They'll be throwing it out either way, so if they're receptive to you taking some off their hands, that could be useful.
Also check out the Old Style board, they've got all kinds of hints about £1 meals and such.Debts (26.3% remaining) - CC/BARC: [strike]2058[/strike] 100.00 @0%; CC/MBNA: [strike]1877.75[/strike] 0.00; Loan/SLC: [strike]10000[/strike] 7901.84 @1.5%; Loan/Per: [strike]1500[/strike] 0.00; Loan/HX: [strike]15000[/strike] 0.00
