Hi - I've got a few rather serious problems.
Due to certain circumstances that i'd rather keep to myself I'm struggling alot with money (struggling means dire straights). Im 19 and go to Wolverhampton uni. My Fees have been paid to stay on site leaving me with a very small amount of cash available from my loan.
Due to thsee circumstances in recent times, I've completely used my overdraft with nationwide and have infact completely used my credit card limit. There was no way around using both of these sadly. I've recently lost my part time job and cannot find one anywhere, despite spending 12 hours on my day off (every wednesday) for the last 2 weeks attempting to fill in applicatoins, surfing and searching. There has been absolutely nothing.
Now im left with no job, a used overdraft, a completely used credit card limit, no family willing or able to lend me any money, other companies refusing any credit card applications i use. Basically I have £10 to last me until April the 4th.
I've spent the last 4 nights without one single wink of sleep and as a result am slowly losing concentration with my university work. I can't get it off my brain... Is there absolutely anything I can do? Anything I can do to get a small little loan or credit card to cover me over until i can pay it back again and hopefully have a new job?
Thanks.

Loans aren't the answer.
Check to see what benefits you're entitled to. As long as you're looking for work you're entitled to Jobseekers allowance. Once you're claiming jobseekers allowance, you're entitled to housing benefit.
This will tide you over save from you starving until you find a job and once you do you can start to make a dent in your overdraft and credit card.
It happens, don't worry, just get what you're entitled to from the government and good luck finding a job

Thanks for the reply. I was under the influence that, aslong as your at university there is no way you can claim jobseekers allowance. Either that or you had to be out of anytime of full time education etc for 6 weeks.
Thanks for your reply.0 -
The OP is a student, he/she cannot claim JSA.
OP, suggest you post on student board for suggestions. You need to approach your Uni for a hardship loan or similar.0 -
or go to your local citizens advice bureaux for advice, or use their website or the cccs. all great at giving advice reg benefits and where you stand, also gives debt advice, and all for free! :-) Live well laugh often, love much.
1 overdraft with Santander paid off, credit card almost gone, 1 overdraft that has been halved!! V chuffed with myself!!! :T0 -
Hi, go to your university welfare place as soon as you can - they may be able to help you with a hardship loan or similar- if not, they will be able to advise you of where else you could try and will know more about the sort of services offered to students.
I don't know what your family situation is like, but from your post it sounds like you are supporting yourself without any help. If that's the case, mention this to the university welfare place too, as it may mean that you're entitled to more financial support (loans, grants, help with fees etc) than you've received.
Best of luck, and I hope it works out for you.0 -
Plough even more time into job hunting, take any job even if it is a cleaning job to boost income. If you struglle with credit now, it will hit you in the future very hard.0

I agree with Sue_Bee. Go to student welfare and talk to them. You're probably not the first student to experience these problems. It's too late today, but go first thing tomorrow!!0

Definitely go to the university Welfare, you may be entitled to support from the Access to Learning fundDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0

the fund should help you a lot in this case0
