My Mum was made redundant last June (2010) and hasn't claimed any benefits at all as she was going away to China for 3 weeks for her 50th birthday and then fell ill. It's possible the OPs Mum got under the NMW if she was on a 'Sleeping Nights' job - like in a Care Home.

Check her NI deductions on P60.
