are you charged for getting a quote for central heating?

Basically as title, I am thinking of replacing my old warm air heating with radiators and a gas boiler and will be getting at least 3 quotes and have heard that some companies charge you for the quote and then discount it off the cost if you chose them.

Is this correct?

Yes, that is correct but not something my OH (a RGI) does at the moment.

Have you really thought this through ?

IF your warm air system is installed properly (Some are not !) it is just as efficient as a wet system.
The really BIG disadvantage to having a wet system put in in place of warm air is all the wall space you will lose for radiator positioning.
I have a warm air system and intend to keep it. Some of my neighbours have had wet systems put in and they have had to get rid of furniture or stick it well away from the walls to stay clear of the radiators.

If you do want to go ahead, I would seriously suggest you get large sheets of cardboard and see how much space you will lose before you sign up to anything.

PS: I'm not the only one who likes warm air !
