  • Phone the insurance company is my advise but take care - make absolutely clear to them that you are looking for information first as some companies will count your call as a claim whether they pay out or not.

You might try to work out after the excess and possible rise in the next premium whether it is worth claiming.
    Only you will know this.
  • Quick question first before you go down the insurance route:-
Does the computer shop actually do laptop repairs? Did they actually take anything apart when looking at the items?
The power connectors can often be soldered back on (it's a fairly common repair, as long as it's just the connector come adrift) and hard drives can usually be replaced (provided you have a way to re-install the operating system - as netbooks often don't have a CD drive). It might be worth seeing if you can get a second opinion before going down the insurance route.

If that's the only actual damage sustained in both cases, then it might well be possible to get them repaired for less than the excess on many policies.
  • Also remember what you have described would be counted as two claims - so 2 excess payments and 2 claims to be declared at renewal time.
  • hiya did take it to the computer shop but they said it cud not be repaired without taking the whole thing apart which would be really expensive also the net book he said he cud replace the hard drive but then it still might not work and i would be out the 150 he quoted to replace it

check you policy wording as some insurance companys exclude cover for accidental damage to laptops/notebooks/Ipads etc whilst being carried.
