... connect my laptop to my freeview box (somehow?) so that I can record a few video clips for a quiz I'm doing at school?

You will either need a capture card or a DVB-T tuner to do this... I would personnaly go for the Tuner

You can get a USB Digital TV/Radio tuner fairly cheaply, my housemate has a Hauppauge model which works great

yup - usb tuner is the way to go - can get them fairly cheaply these days

even the "freeview" ones dont cost very much now
