How much GB do I need?

Hi all,

I am going to be moving house in the next few months and I need a broadband package which suits my needs. I can compare these online, but I don't know how much GB I need? I am a bit lame when it comes to technology! I don't download lots, spend about 1-2hrs online every day (just surfing really), use hotmail for my email. Any other info needed to help you give me an answer? Sorry bet this has been asked loads before!

PS Saw the sky broadband deal with 2GB and thought this may suffice?

TIA!

Very rarely, mainly the odd thing from youtube, maybe once or twice a wk (tends to be a music video).

2Gb worth of downloads represents a couple of hours or so on the iPlayer.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

So it sounds as though 2GB is a bit tight then! Once I get my office set up I may well catch up with the odd thing on the iplayer and it seems popular.
  • If you dont use it much maybe the basic option from Be would suit as its unlimited so you wouldnt need to worry about the bandwidth used/

I've never heard of this company before (told you I wasn't switched on in the techie dept!). Just had a quick peek and it seems like this maybe slow (currently with BT) also when I haven't heard of a company I query customer service, I will need it to be good in case I have any issues! Thanks.

Be is a part of O2 they are both the same company but Be has a more lax fair usage policy. The customer services are very good same as o2.

They do also offer an upto 24mbps tariff which is a couple quid more and a bonded line 40mbps tariff which is alot more but depends what you use your net usage for.

Great, thanks for the info. I will certainly look into them in more detail. I just want to ensure I get the best deal as it's easy to fall into paying for this type of service just out of habit, I want to ensure I have done my homework this time.

You may not be able to even get BE on your exchange unless it is enabled for o2/BE.
Broadband is exchange-specific, so the first thing to do is an exchange search on www.samknows.com and see what your LLU options are, those will be the best and cheapest ISP's.
If you are currently with BT then CS is hardly going to be an issue, is it?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
