  • Need a bit more details.. at what part does it freeze ?
maybe try uninstalling OO then rebooting then run ccleaner then install OO

    *OO = open office
Press any other key to continue.

don't just log off give it a full restart, by shutting down waiting a few seconds and turning on.
  • Try disabling any antivirus/security programs during install as it could be that they are checking the file and causing the freeze.

Do you mean downloading or installing? When the file is downloading it shouldn't be reconfiguring any microsoft stuff.
  • well, would you believe it - I thought I'd attempt it once more so i could give an accurate point at which the installation was failing & the damned thing did it 1st time - thanx to all who took the time to reply
  • I was going to suggest http://www.libreoffice.org/ which is a newer, fully open source fork of Open Office.

Damn, Toxteth beat me to it. LibreOffice is now the only way to go as all bar 1 of the OpenOffice programmers quit and took the 3.6 code with them as the starting-point to LibreOffice.
