My job is only 5 miles away so i'm lucky. The problem with taking a job to far away is if your car breaks down how do you get to work if it's the only car in the household.0

Too long on the road effectively reduces your hourly rate.
Hi,
I think this is the biggest issue for me - the longer the drive, the less my hourly rate ... but I am able to claim the mileage, so that helps.

thats another reason(1 i hadnt thought of before) why i want something closer to home, i could get the bus but it would having to leave earlier than if i went by car and having to get 2 buses compared to if i got this latest job i applied for i could get the bus part of the way then walk rest of the way0 -

My personal max is 30 mins achievable each way - anything more and I feel really tired at the end of the day and wiped out at the end of the week- anything less is a bonus. It's quite important though that that is including the usual traffic conditions so I'm building in 15 mins for extra traffic days and the inevitable dug up roads that crop up along route. If I could guarentee no extra traffic then I prob wouldn't mind an extra 10 mins on that but I find there are always bad days on most routes round where I live.
In practical terms that gets me about 10 miles in one direction but up to 20 in another so the place is very important.MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0 -
I drive 55 miles each way. i am finding the cost is getting ridiculous. It takes 75 minutes on a good day, but unfortunately there are few of those as there are major roadworks, including the shutting of the village road on to the main road, which adds 15 minutes on for next ten weeks! Typically takes me 1hr45 at moment, but has taken over 2 hrs. Going home is normally quicker though, and i can often do that in under 1hr30.
I would kill for a job I could walk to, but unless I move house or switch careers and work in the village shop
it aint going to happen. 0
