computer not starting

Last time I had a tech issue, it was resolved with help from the forum- so I am now trying again!:)

I am using my son's laptop as our main desktop will not turn on. I have turned it on at the power and it tries to work, but all I keep getting is the rebooting log in screen saying that it was shut down and to restart in windows (this is its 13th go at restarting).

Now last night when my son turned off his laptop and the internet, as he turned off the internet the main computer turned itself on again. He tells me that this has been happening for a few times recently, so he turned the computer off by pressing the on button to close it down.

We did recently add a separate back up device to the computer, so has this caused an issue?

Any advice would be appreciated regarding how to get it to work, and why it is turning on when the internet is turned off,as my DH will need to use the computer later for work!

PS- the computer will not let me turn off with control/alt/delete and is now on its 16th attempt at starting.

Can i try turning it on and off again????????:rotfl:

first off, power down completely, unplug any USB storage devices like external disks, usb memory sticks, etc and try it again.

If still no joy, you may need to burn a boot disk :)

if you need a boot disk, this is one of the best.....

download & save, then burn the image to a cd. Set the pc to boot from cd drive first, insert cd and boot it up :)

  • Please keep it simple chaps. I don't know what half of what is said actually means. I've been onto that site, downloaded and copied to disc. Put it in but still nothing. All that happens now is a keyboard error message comes up on the screen but the keyboard does not respond, nor does the disc drive.
    Any suggestions?

  • Okey Dokey,

There needs to be a lot of questions asked here first BEFORE delving into the windows issues!!

What computer is it? Is it a custom build or a shop bought machine, like Dell, Acer etc...

Most brand machines have a restore option - or worst case, you cna boot into safe mode and see what happens there!

    Let me know JD
