Totally confused about what I am entitled to money wise

Options
Hi,
I am looking to go into brighton uni in 2012 to do a midwifery degree. I am a single mum to two kids (who will be 5 and 7 when I hopefully go to uni). Atm I am on income support and doing an ou course. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what funding I will be entitled to coz I am totally and utterly confused. I'm not sure if I am going to be able to afford uni so need to roughly work out what I am entitled to beore hand.
Thanks in advance for any help

The Brighton uni website has lots of info re finances, if you go to the student life/money page. It answers questions on eligibility to bursaries of up to £900 a year ( do not have to repay), continuing to claim benefits if have a child under 7 etc.

The Student Finance England site also has an instant Student finance calculator. Its totally anonomous, you just type in the answers to a number of questions about you, your family, you income and benefits etc and then it will give you a breakdown of what you will roughly receive in grants(non repayable) and loans(repayable from April following the year you graduate provided earning more than £20,000? based on new 2012 rules? Then pay percentage of income approx 9% over nxt 30yrs, unless leave the country when they can't nab any off of you until your return) Not necessarily an option for most people however:)

Also worth seeing what scholarships Brighton offer too. These can be a one off payment, or fund you each and every year of study.
They do have an enquiry tel no and email address so its worth contacting them direct re your own personal circumstances.

I know that the NHS also offers bursaries to do various courses which Midwifery may be eligible for. This means that they pay your tuition fees saving you anything from £3,500 upwards depending on what rate Brighton sets its fees for in 2012.

Sorry haven't posted any links but fairly new to the forums and not ofay with do's and don'ts yet. Don't fancy a slapped wrist too soon!

    Good Luck.:)

But... don't count on any of the info for 2011 staying the same for 2012 or beyond. With all the changes to higher education its hard to imagine that the healthcare courses won't be affected too at some point.

If I were you, I'd also look at funding as though you were doing any other degree in 2012 (higher tuition fees, new loans) and see how it works out that way too, just in case.
