18th Birthday present ideas

Completely stuck trying to think of a present for my DS's 18 th. We bought him a nice watch for his 16th, I was thinking of personalised plates, but he can't drive yet! I was going to give him my dad's watch, but he already has one and it needs servicing ( haven't a clue where.) HELP!

Driving lessons? Flying lesson? Pay for a night out with him and a few mates?

my son has just turned 18 and i didn`t have a clue what to get him either. he was already taking driving lessons and apparantly my taste in clothes and jewellery is "gopping" :o:rotfl:so that was out as fashions and tastes change. in the end we just paid for a cracking birthday bash with disco etc at the local rugby club where he got very merry and gave him a wodge of notes so he could do what he wanted with it.
it might seem like we took the easy way out (well we probably did) but months of thought came up with nothing else!
he enjoyed himself with his friends thats the main thing
proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance! :p
Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money

  • I went up in a hot air balloon for a special birthday.

If he is taking lessons for driving, the personalised plates are a nice idea. Try not to get a tacky one though as it might embarrass him, a nice one that has his initials in it maybe.

DS just turned 16 and I've already been told my fashion sense is old fashioned (eek)

so i paid for this provisional license, and said if he wanted a scooter and all that came with it he needed to get a part time job.

But we did go out for a meal at his choice or restaurant, he got given money from OH, which he promptly put in his bank and bought some memory for his pc.

His own father didn't buy him a birthday card, just bought a printer for his pc (i'm still fuming about the not bothering with a birthday card)

I've given up guessing what DS wants, i ask.

i have never heard of 'gopping' :rotfl:
every time my 18 yo starts a conversation he says 'not being funny but....' - very annoying!
i paid for driving lessons for his 18th, but i find cash is always popular or a voucher for a clothes shop like Topman or summat. or is Topman gopping as well?:rotfl:

Mine went off to Benedorm for a week with 3 mates.
They got a bargain deal :D
I hadn't the heart to tell him February is a 'bit ' quiet' there ..;)
But he had a great time and made lots of new friends including lots of people in the 60 plus age range who were staying in the hotel. :rotfl:
