Is she covered?

Hi all,
Quick question here. My mum has insurance with Blue Finn. On the 14th January, she changed bank accounts to santander...who incidentally have screwed up everything about the process so far. They were meant to transfer all of her direct debits and sort everything. She literally had to do none of it.
Now she needs to claim something on her insurance - we have had lead stolen from the house which is a royal pain. But looking online on her old and new accounts she can't see a paymenbt for it anywhere (she pays direct debit).
Will she be covered? They also screwed up her gym direct debit and didn't transfer that properly. She is worried that she won't be able to use her insurance for the theft because of yet another cockup from santander.

Depends on how long payments have been unpaid and how many letters have been issued. You wont know until Monday when they open.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Suggest you have a look on the policy document and see when it was due to be renewed. Then go to the old bank account and try and locate a payment.
If the premium hasn't been paid then there will be no cover in place, unless there is clear evidence that your mother gave the bank instructions to pay. If they did not, and there were sufficient funds to pay the premium then your mother might have a claim against the bank - but depending on the time lapse they could argue that she should have noticed. Alternatively there may have been a direct debit in place for the insurance company to collect the money.
If they tried to collect the money and the payment was refused because of insufficient funds, then they would have advised that the policy had lapsed.
Unfortunately, although there are many experts on this forum, they don't know the full circumstances of whether the premium has been paid, which is why you are being told to ring and ask the insurers or if there is a broker involved, ask them.0
