Horse carrots and parsnips - Can we eat them?

My local discount store has 10kg sacks of carrots and parsnips for £1.99. They are advertising them as horse food but they appear to be ok. Is it because they are just mis-shappen or is there some other reason they are not being sold for human consumption.

I use horse carrots often. If I'd seen horse parsnips I'd try them too. :)

Just misshapen and in bulk, we buy them for the animals and use them in our cookery, never seen turnips, usually apples and carrots at out feed merchants.

  • I have never seen horse parsnips before,

basically they are just the mis-shape or very large, and the supermarkets dont want htem..

I normally buy a sack of horse carrots peel blanch and freeze, fantastic for adding to casseroles etc...

I think it is because they are mis-shapen. We've eaten horse carrots and they are fine. Never had or seen any horse parnsips for sale round my way.
