Newbie credit card help needed!

Good evening all,

Am a huge fan of this site and knew that you all might be able to give me some good advice!

Have never had a credit card before and need to get one in order to pay for flights for a much needed summer holiday as not enough in debit account. It's going to cost about £1200 and I was just wondering what the best deal was. The Tesco credit card looks good but not sure how much the monthly repayments would be - complete newbie! I'd definately be able to pay it off within a year.

Once again thanks so much to anyone who can give a little advice, much appreciated :D

First of all to be accepted for a Tesco card you need to have good credit.
To have good credit you would of needed to have a history in managing credit cards/loans before.
    Have you any credit history?
  • Not entirely sure about that (complete newbie). Only ever had debit cards but have standing orders that are set up for phone/tv etc.

Have you had a credit card before or do you have one now?

If you can pay within a year, then the monthly payments are (£1,200 / 12 =) £100 aren't they? Alternatively, as you'll see from the summary box, you could pay as little as £25 per month and the remaining balance before the 0% intro rate expires.

Sounds like you don't have a bad credit history, but you don't have a good one either, as for repayments, it'd usually be either 2% of the balance or £5 a month, whichever is more
  • Assuming that yo have never had a credit card then it's unlikely you will get accepted or 0% deals. These are saved for people with quite a good credit history and it seems you don't have one.
