It appears to be registered under:

    http://www.ctrlaltdel.co.uk/

However, they seem to be the exact "money making excerise" company that I hate especially as they are offering no other services and appear to be set up for the sole purpose of domain squatting. Grrr

You have to ask yourself, what if you had already registered it to yourself only to find a company/large corporation deciding they want it?

How would you respond to the request to give it up?

The simple answer would be no, however my situation is rather different. For example the same company is attempting to sell the domain inspire.co.uk for £9895 which is obviously an attempt at getting some poor company to pay such a large fee, if there was a large company named Inspire I would be very pleased if they told them to go sod themselves and raised a trademark dispute or took it to court.

It isn't exactly like I'm asking for a domain that is actively being used by an individual or company, this is sitting idle serving advertisements and a "£900" offer. I can only hope that the UK gets some kind of legislation against this.
  • The problem is that domain names are, by their very nature, unique. That makes certain ones more valuable than others and some more desirable to certain individuals or companies than others.

It's like personalised number plates. Do you think the companies who deal in them are "squatting"?

Just think of a variation and use that. Even common names still have domains available if you're creative.

    MrSmith.me.uk is available, for example.

    Hello,
...However this is one domain lastname.co.uk which seems to be taken by a cyber squatter, all that is displayed on the page is the fake search results along with a "£445 + VAT" for the price of the domain.

Well there you go - it's yours for £445 +VAT. That's supply and demand for you.....

That isn't supply and demand as the market buyers aren't willing to pay it hence why it hasn't been sold since 2006 which is when they aquired the domain (I think I'm the only one and it has been like that for years). However I will be willing to pay the £12 with GoDaddy to see if I can get the domain before they renew it

Good luck with that. You never know - they **MAY** not renew it, but then again if they look at their server logs and see it getting hits - you can be pretty sure they will keep it because, as you point out, it will cost them peanuts to do so.
