Would something eaten at breakfast kick in around midday or 10 mins after?
Depends on the food. "Simple" carbohydrates (e.g. sugar) are metabolised very quickly - so you'll get a sugar rush after a very short time. More complex foods will take longer to metabolise and have an effect.
  • Just thought I would give an update.
I have tried out a food diary, it's hard as he is at school and has school dinners so until he starts back on pack lunches that is not something that I am able to monitor.
But I have been doing one at home and the first and most prominent trigger is breakfast cereal, the sugary ones, honey loops, sugar puffs etc, so I have switched to letting them have weetabix, shreddies and shredded wheat only for now.

I spoke to the school teacher on Friday briefly and she is really happy with his progress, he even got a reward and certificat for 'star of the week' for his behaviour this week, so I really praised him up for that one. I don't know if it is directly linked to the cereal, or more linked to me spending more time with him on a 1 to 1 basis, we have a 10 min per day 'us' time when the baby goes to bed, he gets to choose what we do within reason and we get 10 mins on a timer, it is usualy playing with lego which he is just amazing at.

He has even started to hand write off his own back, they got to choose a subject to work on the other day, it has to be something they want to learn about or know more about but they can choose how to do this, be it on the computer, library etc. He chose to make a diary like the one Samuel Pepys done on the fire of London and even bought it home to work on! his teacher was beaming as she told me he done it all himself with no help and didn't even ask to use the computer to do it :D
Now at home he is making his own diary, infact as we speak he is in his room adding more pages, bless!
