Monitor problems

My monitor keeps flickering when I turn it on, sometimes wont come on at all til I turn it on and off again it is a hp pavilion f1523 flatscreen a few years old. Any idea whats wrong with it or is it dying?
Its not the computer as thats working fine and have done a virus san defrag etc anyway.
I ve checked all connections etc. Once I get it on its ok but flickering loads when you turn it on and have to turn off and on again a few times til it comes on properly. Really cant afford a new one so any ideas would be good as I dont know much about computers. Thanks

If you're certain that the connections are good, it's probably either the backlight or the inverter (more likely the former than the latter). Replacement is generally possible, but the cost/availability of parts usually means that it's simpler to just replace the monitor.

If you decide to get parts off eBay and DIY, don't underestimate how fiddly it can be to do (loads of tiny screws and hidden fixings).

Sounds like the back panel light is dying. A replacement might be cheaper than a fix.
  • Thanks, Ive been lucky and have been given a monitor from a friend who now has a lap top. thanks for advice.
