Lidl or Tesco cheaper?

Which is cheaper for food and household products like fairy washing up liquid etc? The problem with mysupermarket.com is it's only Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's.

The only way to find out is to take your normal list on a trip round Lidl, probably take a till receipt from Mr T, and make a note of the prices, you might be pleasantly surprised. Also, you have to take into account that they may not have the same brands, but a lot of their brands are at least as good as the ones you may be used to.What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

I use both, but I think that it depends on the items that you're shopping for. Although Lidl prices are extremely cheap in some departments, they make up for it in others. Do you have a Farmfoods in your area? I always walk away with a basket full of bargains, such as eggs -6 for 55p, spreadable butter 98p, Heinz Beans (large cans) 44p they also carry more of your known and favourite branded goods than Lidl.0

Hi
I was wondering similar about Aldi and Tesco, so thought I would give it a go
Aldi £33.62
Put the same items into Mysupermarket and came to £51.20 for Tesco and £49.47 for Asda
So feeling quite chuffed :j0 -
very useful thread for me ! We'll be moving into a rental next month, paying a lot more in rent than our previous mortgage, so we've been discussing ways to cut back. One of the things we talked about was whether it was worth doing a local Tesco shop weekly or a 15 odd mile round trip to Lidl fortnightly.
Judging by Gilly's post, I think we'll be going to Lidls !"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
I haven't got one near me now, but I used to get stuff like dishwasher tablets, laundry detergent, cleaning detergents from Lidl because they were very good quality, and much cheaper than Tescos.
I used to buy whole salamis, chorizo, and pickles for the same reason too.0 -
don't forget the chocolate either ! I know that I'm known for not being particularly choosy when it comes to chocolate
, but their stuff is very good.
Worth a 15 mile trip just for this alone!"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
And their bag of mixed nuts. That used to be another regular buy for me.0

definitely - I use these for Nigella's Union Square bar nuts. Which reminds me, I have a bag in the cupboard now......"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510

Where I live there is a Tesco a mile to the east and another a mile to the west! Until recently there was no discount supermarket in town, but a Lidl has recently opened. So I did my list on mysupermarket & printed it out. It shows the prices, so I then went to Lidl to do my shopping and could compare the prices immediately. I am very impressed with Lidl, for example 6 free range eggs for 85p (£1.58 Tesco), mozzarella ball 47p (89p Tesco), onions 59p a kilo (82p a kilo Tesco).
For an idea of quality and price I would recommend reading this:

It’s a one man band taste testing own brands against branded products. Not everything has been tasted yet, but it you click on the go link there is a list of 223 Lidl products, most of which have been tasted.0 -
They also do very reasonably priced cooked meats. The thin sliced ham is brilliant with a resealable lid and no added water so not all slimy like most.
Also recommend their bags of Nasi & Bami Goreng
