I am trying to find the best, cheapest way of insuring a car for my 18 year old son. I have looked at quotes endlessly and need some advice on how to bring the cost down - legally!!! My options are to insure the car he has bought or insure him on my own vehicle. Please help............... :j

If it is his car and he is the main driver it must be insured in his name, do not be tempted to put him down as a named driver on any insurance if he is the main driver, that is known as 'fronting' and is illegal and in the case of an accident could lead to the policy being cancelled and the insurance company not paying out.0 -
If you insure him as the main driver on his own car, add yourself onto the policy aswell as this can bring the price down a little.0

The cost is based on vehicle type, son's age, experience, claims, convictions, your postcode, his occupation etc. etc.
Has he passed his test or is he on a provisional licence? You will not be able to get the cost down below £2k-£3k depending on the above, as this is the rate that insurers are charging for young drivers.
There are not as many insurers willing to take young drivers now, because of the claims experience and unfortunately young males are in the most expensive category. If he has bought a car there are basically two choices - insure it in his own name adding yourself on to bring the price down, or sell it and put him on your own vehicle if he is an occasional user.
If he is the main user on your vehicle you need to tell insurers, otherwise the policy may not respond in the case of a claim - it it is a third party claim, insurers are bound to pay, but may pursue you as the insured for their outlay - not worth the risk.
The other thing to remember is that if you put him on your insurance and he has an accident it is your bonus that will be affected.0
