Personal debt in a divorce?

Hi all

A quick query on liability of parties when it comes to separation / divorce.

We are based in Scotland, my partner split from her husband lasy December (2009) and is now seeking a divorce after living separately for more than 1 year (this is the quick and cheap method as i understand it).

Anyway her ex has accrued a lot of personal debt (in his name only that she has seen nothing for the loans) and is trying to have her pay have of the overall debt.

Is she liable for this does anyone know?

She is seeking a quick clean divorce, not want half of any assets (house, furniture, pension etc).

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

SJ
