i have been using 18185 with virgin media fine for the past few weeks then suddenly this morning when i phone the access number 08081703703 the call connects but i do not get the welcome message etc.
i tried entering the number but nothing happens. is anyone else's service not working today?
i received my first bill today and money is coming out of my account ok (i can see as payment has been removed from my actual balance)
hope someone can let me know
cheers

What do you mean "the call connects"?
Using the 0808 gateway number means you have to enter your target number after you hear the welcome message. Otherwise the call cannot connect.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
sorry dont think i wrote it down properly
when i dial the 0808 number my call rings. connects as i get a one word message saying welcome but usually would normally say welcome please enter number etc and press # key
this does not happen. i have tried entering my desired number then pressing # key but that does not work0 -
There is a 2 or 3 second pause between the "Welcome" and the "Please enter ...." announcements today.
Just start dialling your target number as soon as you hear the word "Welcome".
As you know what to do (and to end your target number with a #), just ignore the anomaly (it's working perfectly for me).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
