Sudden loss

Hello

We had to have our 12 yr old dog put to sleep yesterday. It was all very sudden. He'd been poorly for about 24 hours. We took him to the vets and they took a blood sample. The phosphorus levels were so high the vets said there was really nothing that could be done, and the kindest thing would be to have him put to sleep.

He seemed fine last week, so this has all happened so quickly and is really heartbreaking. He had a really good life and was very loved but it is so sad.

Please give all those four-legged friends a big hug and kiss.

xx

  • Im sorry you lost your dog, sending hugs.
  • I'm so sorry for your loss  as a fellow dog owner (mine's about 11 or 12 years old - rescued) it's the thing you dread the most.

A sudden passing is so much harder for the ones left behind, as you have no chance to prepare, but try to console yourself that at least your doggie didn't suffer and had a fantastic life with you. Difficult as it is to make the decision to pts, it is the last and kindest act you can do as a dog owner under the circumstances. Easy to write, but so hard to do. My thoughts are with you and your family - sending you all virtual hugs

So sorry Huggy. Did the Vet say why?

A long warning is as bad, as everyday you are looking for signs. Each day, could this be the last?
There is no better alternative I'm afraid. It's all dreadfully painful.

I found it the worst thing I'd ever done, and coped with.

With this one, I try to curb calling him "my baby", "little boy" etc. Saying, "mummy" this and that, as I have to face the end one day.

Difficult, as it's just the two of us.

Be kind to yourself, and cry when need be. You'd cry over any other family member.

I hope this is some comfort to you while you grieve for him.

    Time to Go

The time has come I think you know
the Lord is calling so I must go
I love you so much; I wish it wasn't so
I wish I could stay; I don't want to go

You're the best family a dog ever had
so kind and gentle, never mean or mad
I'll never forget the day that we met
I was so lucky to become your pet

You opened your door and showed me your heart
I'll never forget you; we'll never part
You loved me and cared for me over the years
you taught me everything and took away my fears
The Lord is calling now I must go
but before I go I want you to know
I know it hurts to lose a friend
but I'll always be with you even to the end.
  • Thank you for your kind words xx

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. The pain is the price we pay for friendship with those whose lives are so much shorter than ours.
