What is telling you that you have spyware - pop up or program.
Have you got spybot or ad aware installed. If not download then install and then run update and scan yor system.
Then run windows update.0 -
my money is on it being the grey box telling you that you've got spyware and to here here, download this and all your problems will be solved..
just install google toolbar as mentioned on the other post and activate the popup blocker.. also install zonealarm and that'll help with the rst0 -
Depending on how savvy you are with pcs there are several steps you can take.
Install SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY. It's a very easy to use program and gets rid of a lot of the more common dodgy apps. The current version has an optional component called Tea Checker which, if installed, warns you when anything tries to install.
If on XP/2k, get ALL of the critical updates and keep on top of them. Windowsupdate.com gets updated with all the latest security issues pretty regularly. Visit often (at least once a fortnight)
Get a firewall. Sygate do a good free one which will prevent unauthorised access in or out.
There are a lot of free firewalls, Sygate is my preference only.
Change browsers.
Seriously, Internet Explorer is the main culprit as it has loads of security holes. There are loads of fantastic alternatives around, some of which have built in pop-up stoppers etc.
Anti-virus should be a given , but worth mentioning anyway.
If none of those get rid of it, try HIJACKTHIS. A brilliant free application which lists everything running on your machine and allows you to remove dodgy stuff from running. This app is quite involved and should only be used if you are COMPLETELY comfortable with what you are doing.
Hope this is of help.0 -
Further, if you get hijackthis you will need to have somone to interpret the log files, the site will help. http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=605I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
