needing help with NCB? Please help!!

Last year I received my car renewal invitation from my insurer advising I had 15 years (71%) no claim discount and without no claim discount protection for the life of the claim. I took up the policy and due to the adverse weather conditions in my area over the christmas period I was involved in a skid, which unfortunately involved me uncontrollably dinting another vehicle. My insurers took full liability and advised that in the eyes of the law I was to blame as I had made the decision to drive in those treacherous conditions.
I had previously prided myself in not being involved in any accidents over 15 years and expected my premium to drastically go up, however I have appeared to have lost 11 years NCB bonus. My new car insurance renewal invitation states after deducting 4 years (65%) no claim discount and without no claim discount protection for life. I have challenged them regarding this and they advised they only work on a capped maximum of 5 years NCB and any other additional years are irrelevant to the insurance. Furthermore, searching through other insurers I now have to put in 4 years NCB even though in theory it should be higher -due to one ice ridden road in the winter and of course my only claim. Is there anything I can do to claim back my NCB? Can anyone please assist me?

It is normal to go down from the max of 5 years when you make a claim irrespective of how many claim free years you had.

But you do seem to have done "alright" - with the majority of insurers one claim means the loss of 2 years NCD, and it seems yours has just deducted one.

maybe it's one of the companies who count 6 years bonus and they have reduced it by two years
