Hi all
Just wanted to advise those of you who have made a claim on your travel insurance and it's been turned down to speak to the financial ombudsman..i claimed for a damaged suitcase from my travel insurance company, who turned down my claim as i hadn't reported the damage to my airline within 7 days. This we were unable to do because of onward travel. I contacted the financial ombudsman who sent a letter to my travel insurers (Aegeas via Post office) within 10 days i received a cheque settling the claim from insurers!

I would suggest people check their suitcases AT the baggage hall.
There is a desk there where you can collect a damage report from.
Once you leave the hall there is then a question mark over where and how the damage occured.
We've had suitcases damaged 3 times and always check them after they come off the carousel.0 -
Can you tell me how you contacted the ombudsman?
I came on here to post a thread about my Mums insurance, She has had her insurance through her bank for years and never made a claim until October when due to her mothers death she had to fly home early.
after months of chasing it up and getting doctors etc to fill in letters and send off reciepts the only thing they are refunding is the return flights minus £100 excess.
As my mum has a time share and her yearly maintenece fees are what she pays for her for her weeks accomodation and they will not refund this (she doesn't expect them to pay for the actual timeshare, just cover her week)
Arriving home at 4.30 am in Glasgow and she lives in Edinburgh she had to get a Taxi and yet again the insurance are not going to cover any of that either so could my mum contact the ombudsman??Sarcasm
