iPod touch

I got my beloved ipod touch 3rg gen the christmas before last, and now all of a sudden the aux output (be it to headphones or speakers) just sounds compleatly terrible. Its hard to describe but like the music sounds distorted and the vocals on any song or a podcast or audio book are so quite that they are barely audable even when turned up fully. Ive heard it sound similar but that was when there was a problem with my fancy headphones that had seperate treble and bass lines in them or something like that, but now it is always there with all headphones or aux jack. The sound sounds perfect through the inbuilt speaker or when i dock it via the normal atachment, and it functions perfectly otherwise. Its pretty much useless to me unless i can fix it, so im wondering:

Whats the best way to sell it for as much as possible?

Is there any good ipod deals atm? I know there is unlikely anthing too lucrative on the new 4th gen but is there places you can buy the old 3rd gen at a reduced cost?

When are apple likely to reduce a new model? 4th gen is about 5 months old so i am reluctant to spend over £300 when it could be outdated in a month, hence why im interested to know if 3rd gens are available anywhere.

Thanks

no idea on where to sell it.

but as for good deals for the 4th gen one try HMV instore they often have good deals, with a speaker dock and either an itunes or HMV (better) gift card, or sometimes both itunes and HMV gift cards and a speaker dock.

as for a new version, all ipods are replaced by their new models in September only, and before that time there are zero price drops, meaning that the 4th gen ipod touch will be exactly the price it is now until very late august/september.

(you could also try a refurb 3rd gen model if you dont want the better features (better screen or video calling) of the the 4th gen)
  • If you've had it 15 months then you should have a claim against the retailer do some reading but just because it is out of wArranty you do not have be out of pocket

Take it to an Apple Store. If it's out of warranty they can replace it with a refurb for about half the price of a new one.
    "...IT'S FRUITY!"
  • Under the Sale of Goods Act (SOGA) you could reasonably expect your Ipod to last longer than 15 months. There is also a European directive which states electronics goods should be covered for a minimum of 2 years - this is enforced in the UK by the SOGA.

Basically Apple should be fixing this (unless the fault has been caused by something you have done).

of all the stupid directives we in the UK have to abide by, the minimum 2 year warrenty has never at any level been enforced or is in law.
therefore it is stuck at just 12 months here in the UK.

unless you can show me exactly that it is?

Yes, this particular directive was never enacted in law because the soga already met or exceeded the directive. The soga mearly says items should be durable which in theory could mean cover up to 6 years in certain circumstances. I would certainly expect the soga to cover this situation although the op may have to prove the item is inherently faulty rather that the fault being caused by their actions.

Try doing a full factory reset just in case the issue has to do with software. Also check if there's a newer firmware version, updating to that would re-flash your firmware and fix any corruption.

I would echo the advice to stick with apple or raise the issue with the retailer. Apple are very good when it comes to customer service.
