Sky Bingo

I've recently seen the tv adverts for Sky Bingo so thought I'd give it a go as they had quite a good offer.
However I had almost finished registering last night, when I got to an age verification page asking for my passport or driving license number to prove I was over 18. I don't drive and lost my passport and haven't got a new one yet so I decided just to leave it.
Anyway I got a call earlier from them saying they'd noticed I hadn't used my account yet and was there a reason! The lady then said I could scan my birth certificate and email it to them to activate my account, although I don't think I'll use Sky Bingo as it seems like an awful lot of hassle just to join.
Found it all a bit strange as I've played bingo online before but never had to do all this verifying! Is this becoming more common or is it just Sky that are doing it?

Its fairly common with some gambling sites unfortunately. Always puts me off too0

it's to do with the stricter rules now about money laundering, all gambling sites or sites that involve taking and paying out money are supposed to verify identities now. A lot of sites are up front about it and ask at the beginning when you deposit, the sneakier ones wait until you want to withdraw before asking.0

Thanks for the replies
I've tried Sun Bingo and some others in the past, but it had been about a year I think since I'd last used any of them. I won some money and withdrew it with no problems on Sun Bingo but that may have changed now too. It just seems a bit over the top, but I suppose I understand why! 0 -
