Cat Food Advice

I've tried the expensive brands, bought off Zooplus, and none of my 3 liked it. Ended up having to trade with someone at work for some Felix back. So i feed them a premium dry in the mornings, and felix at night. I haven't tried them on applaws mind you, but I can't afford that anyway.
Bought in bulk, the real top ones, are very competative with the cheap ones.
I get the 2x10 kilo bags of RC persian (from Zoo Plus).0 -
A lot of cats who are used to Felix et al won't take to the higher quality food immediately, they need changed over slowly.
I ahve a cat that chose to live with me, went back to her original owners and then came back to me a few months later. On both occasions she had been fed cheaper, filler fed foods and at first she turned her nose up at everything I put down for her. I had to transition her slowly, mixing things together in varying quantities. Now she will eat everything given to her (apart from fishy flavours). She even eats all the treats I give like Dreamies and Temptations where at first she wasn't in the least bit interested.
Feeding isn't about what's best and easiest for me, it's about giving my cats the best possible chance at as healthy and as long a life as I can. I've done my research and am always learning from others much better informed than me.
A few years ago I thought Whiskas was good and Gourmet "posh"! Needless to say I don't subscribe to that school of thought anymore.
Most people will know someone who smoked 40 fags a day and lived till they were 100, or someone who lives on chips and burgers and is never ill. does that mean the doctors are wrong and we should all be following that diet?0 -

Dry food is fine, they get Hills Science Plan, its the wet food. All 3 like their felix.DFD February 2012

Its not that i find feeding them Felix easier for me, but i've tried different foods with them, and when you have 3 cats not eating, i tend to think giving them something they'll eat as important. If i'd had known more about cat food 8 years ago, I would've started them off differently, but I didn't, and I know my cats, and I know what they'll eat and what they won't.DFD February 2012

I know you've got lots of replies here so probably don't need mine! However, just to chuck my two penn'th in the ring....my cat (an only 'child') is v. fussy but happily eats Iams dried stuff, all the flavours. I find Pets-at-Home is usually cheapest but currently Tesco have been doing 3 for 2.
BTW she goes potty for Felix pouches but then goes off it if she has it more than twice in a week - cats eh? "go figure"!
hope that helps

Probably don't need my opinion, but just my tuppence....
My two ladies (indoor only) get 1 pouch each of Felix or Applepaws in the morning, a small bowl of dried (usually go cat indoor) to nibble at through out the day, and then 1 pouch each again at tea time and some dried left out at night.
This is what they have had since i had them 3 years ago, and they have a check up at the vets every 6 months to be weighed and have their claws trimmed (general MOT for the cats really) and the vets have said they are in optimum condition
and they seem happy - which is what matters! Married My Best Friend & Soulmate on 21st July 11! So happy to be Mrs Kyle!:heart2:0 -

That's why I said it's about weaning. Obviously if there's no luck at all, something is better than nothing. My littlest one point blank refused everything I gave her for the first week, unless it was cheap supermarket stuff, so I started mixing it with what I feed my other two, in tiny amounts at first. Now she goes potty for everything I give her (other than the aforementioned fish flavours).
It's also wise to do a slow changeover so as not to upset their tummies, a sudden change in diet can make for a sudden and unpleasant change in litter tray deposits!0 -
Just had a nice chilli dog pasta in tomato for tea, and our monts is currently cleaning up the bowl, tomato and all. Soon be curled up snug as a bug on the sofa. Luckily, he has not got a taste for Broccolli like a predecessor.0

your comments demonstrate you to be a barely literate idiot:eek:So why are all the premium pet foods dried & all the junk food wet?
Do you really believe the premium complete cat food makers (Royal Canin, Applaws, ojin (SP?) are selling a dangerous product?
ETA, you will see where I said "I" before everything I said, clearly marking it as my own opinion & not medical fact - unlike yours which you are spouting as gospel;)
not all dried food is premium nor is all wet food junk
premium dried food is OBVIOUSLY not dangerous as I feed it myself but not solely - my comments are not opinion but FACTS based on 30+ years of cat ownership & vetinary advice. What I feed my current cats is based on giving them best my pocket can stretch to & what is best for their overall health: taking into consideration their age, gender, lifestyle & excellent condition.
I appreciate what others have written on this site over the years & you should learn to digest & think before typing on your keyboard. Personally I am not interested in opinions & as such do not offer mine but I offer personal experience & advice given to me by my vet - which is what most people on this site are looking for.
please do not comment on my posts again & go share your opinions with someone who might be interested down the pub!0 -

You're not so literate yourself.
I never said all dried foods were premium, I said all the premiums are dry food ranges, quite a difference there.
You are very rude & were rude to me simply for simply for disagreeing that you could safely feed a quality complete dried diet.
I shall reply to whatever posts I wish too, the clue is in the name, its a chat forum.
I don't drink so I don't really go to pubs.
Oh & my vet said to feed a dried diet for dental health.
ETA the rules say not to give out veterinary advice;)0
