I think it's time i left AOL, advice needed please

Hi all,

I have been with AOL since 2003 and never had any problems really until now.
I now get regular drop outs, it can be slow(although that could be becuase of where we live) and the latest which has just about topped it all is that for some unknown reason whenever i try and open an email attachment i get a pop up telling me it is unable to scan attachments. I am still trying to work out whether it is just AOL to AOL emails that it seems to do it too or whether it is anything coming in.

I was thinking about going to BT but i am unsure of the whole procedure to do this, i am not longer on any contract with AOL so i haven't got that tie.
Is it easy to get you mac code from AOL and then what happens after that? Do they stop the account straight away? how does the process work and how long could i realistically be without internet access for whilst this all goes on?

Thanks

You have to give 30 days notice. The process is seamless, and if you use a MAC you should have at most a couple of hours downtime.
But why switch from one bad ISP to another?
Suggest you do an exchange search on https://www.samknows.com and see what your LLU options are.
PS: if you are still using AOL's clunky old bespoke software then you are making life difficult for yourself. You can use any desktop email program with AOL (Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Thunderbird etc), you don't have to use the AOL system.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
