duel fuel standard charge

hi

I've been on conparision websites and edf are comming out the cheapest for dual fuel but they have a standing charge of £53.83 with a saving of 200 something whereas my current supplier does not but costing me more at the moment

i'm not sure how to work out if it is still cheaper to pay a standing charge and with one tier charge per unit per pence.

The standing charge come to a fiver a month as we are wanting to pay on a monthly basis.

we are paying £40/£40 on average for both gas and elec

£40 x 12= 480 x 2=960 p annum for both.

EDF comes to £775pa + 53.58=828.52 pa
they give a 2.5 % or very similiar discount pa(i've not accounted for the discount)

hope this is correct the way i've worked it out

or eon do offer an online tarrif.

cannot decide which is the cheapest option switch or stay with eon but on a different tarrif.

advice will be gratefully received.

The only figures to enter into a comparison site are kWh per year. Any other figure will give at best a guess of the best supplier. Any non-standing charge tarriff does have a standing charge for the average user. Multiply the number of first tier units by first tier price - second tier price. My electric is 900 x (22.6-9.89) = £114.39 per year or 31.34p per day.

If you enter kWh/yr into the comparison sites they will do all the work for you including any discounts which muddy the water a bit.

Ok from the comparision website on assumption i use 3852kwh elec and 35820khw gas p year

eon our current supplier is £1,806.78 annual
    • Gas unit rates: 7.26p per kWh 3.158p per kWh above 2680 kWh p.a
    • Electricity unit rates: 21.83p per kWh 12.506p per kWh above 900 kWh p.a
and cheaper supplier 1st utility at £1,437.00 annual isave dual fuel 7 saving £369.78
    • Gas unit rates: £208.233 Annual standing charge 2.506p per kWh
    • Electricity unit rates: £47.158 Annual standing charge 11.351p per kWh
the annual standing charge seems really high
  • For the providers I've used, the usage charged at the higher rate was calculated on a calender quarter.
Most people will always use all the higher rate each quarter.
If you shut down your house for ~3months or more a year, holiday home maybe, then this could save over a standing charge tariff.

That is why the comparison sites are good. It is far too difficult to work out the best deal yourself.
