I'm feeling a bit down in the dumps today.
I'm not surprised - what a bl**dy neighbour ((HUGS)) Really sorry to hear that IB is back - I had my fingers crossed for you that he'd gone for good...thoughtless g*t that he is.
Can you try ring the police during the night? Round here they will attend and tell tenants to turn it down/off but I guess with his mentality that he'd whack it up even louder as soon as they had gone. Sorry can't offer anything else but support and sympathy.:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

IBMorning all
Planning a no spend day today. Bread maker is on, washing machine is on and DD1 is out of bed. DD2 takes a little longer especially in the hols.
Planning on visiting mum this afternoon as two of my sisters will be there and my 4 youngest neices and nephew. Will take mum the bread I'm making as both her and dad like it and she is trying to persuade him to buy her a BM.
Did not need to make tea last night as both daugthers were fed by grannie who had taken them out for the day. OH and I quite full from our picnic lunch yesterday so we shared the remaining portion of the red lentil dhal and rice I made on Monday. OH taking the picnic remains to work for lunch today.
I have a pretty accurate list of what is in my freezer but plan on tidying it out today and checking the list to make sure that there is not something lurking in terte that I don't know about.
Have got some clothes to repair today for both me and the girls. Gone are the days when things were replaced rather than repaired. Saying that I posted at the beginning of the year that I was not going to buy any new clothes this year. I have three pairs of work trousers which I have had for many years and two pairs have finally died on me over the last three weeks. They are beyond repair. I will now have to replace them on payday this week. I might try the charity shops. Not somewhere I usually clothes shop but people on here seem to do very well in them so I think it's time I gave them a try. Failing that will get them from the supermarket.
Just seen your post greyqueen. I was ppoised to celebrate his dissaperance. Sorry to hear that he is back.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Thanks for your sympathy, Ceridwen. Yes. I have got places I can and do camp out; SuperGran's living room floor with my blow-up mattress and sleeping bag, Friend K five mins away on the sofa bed, can't do Friend R on the next street at the mo as she has a lodger on her sofa bed. Times are tough since her redundancy........My family are 1 hour away which is normally just perfect but I can't run in and out at whim (would be welcome but can't afford the bus fare).
Trouble is, I have a weird foible that I don't ususally sleep on the first night away from my own bed, anyway! If it's quiet this evening, I shall go to bed about 7 pm and play catch up.
The lottie shed was under serious contemplation but is so full that it would be a case of huddling in a ball on the floor and there are spiders in there big enough to saddle up and ride.
Thanx for the good wishes.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Good Morning All
Does anyone know how to make a lined curtain? I bought some lovely fabric to make a door curtain before Christmas and haven`t got round to making it yet.
I have made them before but just can`t remember how much fabric I need to allow for heading and hem. My soft furnishing books are all in the jumble that is our loft.
Also I went to buy some lining fabric at the weekend and it was more expensive than the actual curtain fabric. My Mom was with me and said that she has old curtain linings that I could use. Just need to get some heading tape now.
I do have metres of lining fabric and curtain tape in my stash but they are to make a pair of cream damask curtains for the living room. I bought all of that years ago and have never got round to making them. It seems a shame to use that just for one door curtain.
Thanks everyone.0 -
Hullo Mrs Veg Plot, sorry to hear your work trousers died, know exactly what you mean. I wear black boot-cut trews for my job and have 2 pairs, one from the c.s. and one pair from Evans, which cost me £16 over a year ago and are still going strong. I'd rather buy 2nd hand but I'm nearly six feet tall and have problems getting the leg length I need. Happy shopping.......

Good Morning All
Thanks for all the info on freezing flour and trust me after reading all the weevil stories I will definitely make sure I keep room in the freezer to "treat" each bag of flour as I get it. Hadn't realised they are such a problem once you get them.
On a better note my new freezer arrived today. You can tell you're getting old when something like this is so exciting. Saved up for it the OS way and I have to say while it's nice to be able to just bash the old credit card to get what you want there is more satisfaction in a bit of delayed gratification. Now what shall I save for next?
Still overcast and drizzling here but def getting warmer and isn't it nice to see the evenings getting lighter. Must be getting near time to put the clocks forward.
Take care everyone.0 -

:grouphug: GreyQueen - sorry to hear you're feeling blue. As Ceridwen said, his karma bank is in massive overdraft. Look after yourself xxx
Work seems to be swinging between ridiculously busy to literally having nothing to do. We're stringing out our work so we don't get bored rigid!
Crochet going well - did a flower last night, that I think I will make into a little brooch to wear on my woolly hat. Looking forward to sitting down with the recipe books at the weekend and sorting out meals for the month.0 -
Great to see this thread back, I didnt post much but enjoyed reading it.
To get through the tough times ahead, I am going back to the way that my Mum ran her house when we were little, (early 70's). Every Friday the weekly monies are divided up into envelopes to know that the bills are accounted for, it was always was home made meals on the table too, we never ever had take away meals. Many things were knitted and sewn, mended and handed down. This is the way that our household is going, and has been over the past year. No food was ever thrown away as money was tight and everything that could be used would be used. Its amazing when you stop to think how much you took in without realising when you were small, The baking, mending, budgeting, cooking etc all skills up until recently that were looked down on by some classes in society - however - no matter what you have materialistically it will be these skills and the comradery between people who know these skills and want to learn them that will come out the other side, hopefully unscathed and stronger appreciative people.
I do and have done for the last 10 years or more an envelope system, some is cash some is individual online savings accounts. It is nice to know that the money is there waiting when the bill comes through.
I found some dishcloth cotton in a box so have been knitting some of those as well, much stronger then the cheap bought ones.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -
Good Morning all,
Ive been lurking for the past few weeks, whilst I've been off work and have finally plucked up the courage to post.
I'm in the process of trying to becoming more OS for a number of reasons not all of which are due to the current economic crisis, although as I've been signed off work for the last 6 weeks and have no idea when I will be ready to return money may pretty soon become a very big reason
Although I thinks I'm quite OS, I know that there are areas that I can improve in, especially the about of food that gets wasted as Though I'm good at meal planning, Im not good at sticking to it and I end up throwing so much food out:embarasse"Let your boat of life be light, pack only what you need- A homely home and simple pleasures, one or two friends worth the name, someone to love and someone who loves you, a cat, a dog, a pipe or two enough to eat, enough to wear and a little more than enough to drink, as thirst is a dangerous thing" Jerome k. Sorry to hear about your neighbour from hell Greyqueen ..I would love to be a fly on the wall if he does turn up in front of you though!!:rotfl:
Mrs vp you should defiantly have a look round the charity shops there can be some real bargains. My best one ,while not clothes, was a new pair of laura ashley curtains for £6.50! They are huge and look loverly in my lounge:D.
I am going to be having a quick look later today and see if I can find some very cheap t shirts for work as I have discovered its not a bank I am cleaning but a sauna:eek: at this rate I will be thinner than my mop handle:rotfl:. My eldest ds has an opticians appointment today so will have time to have a little wander round town, then I have to go to the job center to inform them of my good news!
Have defrosted some pork loin steaks for tea so am going to use them to make some fajitas (thanks to mr s 3 for £10 meat offer) If I cut them into strips I think the should be fine as a replacement for chicken..well I am hoping:pJAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200
