Gailey have you stripped your cloth nappies? My dd said her girls were weeing through them so I told her how to strip them using vinegar and no soap in the washer. It worked and they don't leak anymore. The modern nappies need this because the fabrics do not boil. DD said they were full of soap even though she rinses well.

6 done and 74 to go! They are not perfect but I am hoping that will add to the charm!:rotfl: They are to hang on the back of the chairs at the wedding reception, the marquee is very white and bland and needs some colour splashes and this seemed a cheap way of doing it. The chairs will have white covers and white sashes on, then these will be tied to them. Hoping with the choice of flowers (sweetpeas and roses) the venue will have a bit of a shabby chic look about it. Bunting next!

    Hope this link works! ............

Sorry to hear about the house offer Kidcat! :( Hopefully something better is waiting for you!

They look lovely, catznine! One tip with making fabric hearts if it's any use to you and you've got millions to make (and you're not already doing it):

Take the piece of fabric you're using for the BACK of the hearts. Fold it in half. Seam on the machine 5/8" from the fold line, then cut along the fold line. Press the seam flat. You now have a piece of material with a seam up the middle. Now, using the seam AS YOUR CENTRE LINE, cut out your heart shape for the back (obviously the material that's at the front will be cut from a different piece of material and will NOT have the seam). Put the two hearts together and sew ALL THE WAY ROUND, clipping your curves. You now have two pieces of material sewn together. Now take a pair of sharp scissors and cut some of the stitches along your back seam. Turn the heart right side out through that and stuff. Once your heart is stuffed, you can oversew along your back seam again.

I find this is a much quicker way of doing things than leaving a gap as you sew ROUND the heart, which you then have to sew up. And it they're hanging from the pews, the back seam won't show at all.

Anyway, if you've got your own method, ignore! HTH.

Beccah I am so nervous for you trying this dish now!

    Greying

Thank you soo much for the recipe!! Little sis and I just had it for lunch with lamb chops and it was utterly divine! I jiggled with the spices a little and added some sauted, wild mushrooms.....perhaps a few too many, as we seem to have quite a lot left over. I'm guessing it will work cold too??

I made a temporary wedge from 2 bedspeads yesterday and put it under my mattress so the head end was higher and I was lying on a proper slope. I get reflux at night and I know this is what wakes me and gives me a night time sore throat. I slept all through the night. I already have low bricks under the bedhead but the recommended height is 5", which I tried and it worked. Beats taking medicines when a simple postural fix might do. The slope was a bit extreme but I may invest in a proper undermattress wedge. This goes with the usual fixes ie no food after 6.30, no fizzy drinks etc Very os and cheap compared to buying over the counter meds. I don`t take meds if I can help it and take nothing just going by self help like neti pot when I get a cold

Kittie, have you tried a purpose-made foam wedge pillow? My mother suffered with asthma and often needed to sleep propped up at quite an angle. At a carboot sale, she found a wedge thats made from two large sections of foam padding, encased in cotton, that fold over onto each other. With a pillow on top of that, she was raised to a position of almost sitting upright, but still uber comfortable and able to breath easily.
I'm sure those wedges can still be purchased online or from orthapedic specialists.

That's a great idea choc clare! Thank you so much for that as no matter how small I make the stitches at the side, I am still aware of them! As I still have 74 to go it was a timely suggestion!

Blimey I'm off here for a week and you've moved all over the place. Good to be back here though.

Thanks to those who asked after my wellbeing. Things not great and I'm spending a lot of time visiting the hospital. My bump is measuring far too big - I'm 26 weeks pregnant but am measuring at 33 weeks. Had an emergency scan and it's because I have too much amniotic fluid. I have to have a diabetese test and be constantly monitored as my body thinks it's more pregnant than it really is. SPD playing havoc so taking things really easy and to top it all off I now have piles. I know it'll all be worth it in the end but have told my hubby that this is it - we stop at two children!

On a more OS note I am sitting here listing some of the clothes that my daughter has grown out of as the baby will be a boy to earn some extra cash. I've sold quite a few bits (I only list the Next, Gap, JoJo ones as the others don't sell). It looks like I only shop at these shops but that is where my daughters trousers come from as no other ones have small enough waists - she still fits her 9-12 month old skirts even though she is 4 years old. I've also sold some duplicate gifts that she got and some bits I bought a few years back as prezzies and have never used. Just this month I have made an extra £200 which is paying for my chiropractor.

We need to got through our freezer and start using what is in there so that I can fill it up later with easy to defrost or make food for when the baby comes - which looks like it could be sooner than we anticipate.

Been spoiling my little girl a little as mummy cannot do much with her and I know I shouldn't spend too much but she's really into Fireman Sam at the moment so have got her the vehicles and the other day we made a fire station out of an old cardboard box.

I do find it hard not buying her things as when I was a child my mother was evil and use to throw away our toys when she got into one of her moods. We had very little as children and no love or attention from her at all. She was horrific and without the love and support of my fabulous grandparents we wouldn't have survived in one piece.

Talking of grandparents (who are Polish) I'm sure I've mentioned that both mine are concentration camp survivors. Their mentally about wastage and food since this experience is very different to the grandparents of my friends. Till this day my grandmother still squirrels away food and will not throw any food out at all. When we visit we do have to go through her sood supply as she keeps food well beyond the dates and I'm not talking about a few weeks! However, she is truly an inspiration to me and no one could have asked for a more strong, wonderful role model. :A

    Anyway, enough of my ramblings.

I am sitting on the sofa in my sitting room. Next to me is an ironing board. In front of me is a hoover. There is a pile of paperwork next to me. There are magazines on the floor, plus some "done" ironing in a pile.

You did all that in an hour? :T I haven't managed to hoover the whole sitting room yet, and I started yesterday!!! And my sitting room is about 6m x 5m, we're not talking Buck House here.

Right, I'm off to do some sewing and listen to Harry Potter. Can't be doing with all this housework malarkey. I'm on holiday :D

    Hi,

I've been reading the first few pages of this topic and I'm impressed by the degree that some posters have pushed back on their spending.

Are there any easier threads on getting started with vegetarian meals, gardening, home budgeting, reworking or reusing old stuff? Or is there an index somewhere on getting started?

I am focused on debt and food budgeting at the moment and feel the need to think and feel wider and enjoy what I am doing. Kind of counting the pennies with meaning and direction if that makes sense.
