Well I dont see the same person any longer as much as I want to, he has changed so much.........I do believe that now after 2.5 yrs after the stroke that what we see is what we get, he is very slightly mobile and will always need 24/7 care..........
Shegar,
My thoughts are with you. My husband had a stroke 5 and half years at the age of 44.
We are lucky as he is walking and talking wounded. But don't think he will ever work again. And does not 24 hour care.
Please do PM if you feel the need to. I am always happy to lend a shoulder and please don't try and struggle on you own.
Yours

Make a nutrient rich OS plant food by picking a large bunch of nettles and put them in a bucket of water until they are rotted down - it will turn the water black and smelly but it is an excellent liquid feed for no cost:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

Sorry Kittie, but with no information as to who has started it and whether the Federation are supporting this, I won't sign. Will happily sign if it has their name at the top though!
oh well I thought I would try and help the council allotment holders present and future. It doesn`t affect me at all as my allotment is a private one0 -
I live in a town, which isn't near any kennels or waste ground, and I don't have transport - but thank you for the suggestions Frugalista & Ginny
As I mentioned before, I lived in flats, and have moved 3 times since coming to live in Dorset. Flats mean no sheds or lofts, so no hoarding. Also each time you move you declutter, so I really don't have anything that I could use.
I looked at the small Te$co carrier bags today, but I think they would hold considerably more compost than your standard bucket. How did you find them Jackie - did they take much compost to fill?
Interestingly though their wine carrier bag looked more promising. It has compartments sewn inside it to accommodate 6 bottles of wine, but they could easily be snipped out. Slightly less wide that the small ladybird carrier, although I think, the same height, with a more more subdued design. I'm going to buy one over the weekend so I can bring it home and "have a play" as my Mum used to say. What do you think?Aug11 £193.29/£240

well hippeechig the bags sound a good option. They should fit about half a gro-bag in from what I remember of them in the shops and you can grow quite a lot in that much compost. The fabric is pretty tough to so should work well for you.
Shergar, may I add my hopes that all goes well for you and the support you so rightly deserve and need is forthcoming. Look after yourself hunnyif you have a quiet word with your OH's friends and ask them to visit and that their help could speed his progress they might overcome their reticence. I had to do that with my OH's old friends and now they have got over the worry they are very helpful.

I think the wine carrier is a good idea for the type of plants you have Hippeechiq, the others are more suited to bigger things, like spuds! I used two containers of compost that year I think, (grew five varieties of spud) but I reused it in my flower beds when it was done, and put some back in the composter. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

Excellent :T Thank you. Just wanted to be sure you think they'd be ok for my type of plants......all I need are the plants now :rotfl:
Well, them and the compost actually, lol. I think if I'm going to plant up 16 plants (giving the others away) I'll get 10 grow bags worth of compost just to be on the safe side.
So far I've only received the tomato plants, which are looking very healthy on my south facing bedroom windowsill, the others should all be with me by late April early May.
What about pests/slugs - any tips on that front?Aug11 £193.29/£240

Coffee grounds or smashed up egg shells should deter slugs

Lurker alert. I use the water retaining crystals in my pots as they sewll up and keep the water locked in and help to stop the plants from drying out. You just add about a teaspoon into the compost and mix. Slopes back to lurkdom.
