The pension thing is really irritating isn't it? I am in that ggroup of women who will have to wait 2 extra years for their pension - I would have got it at 64 now it will be 66 - because I was born 3 weeks too late. No other group will have to wait more than 1 extra year including younger women who have more time to make up the difference

Eeek! Can you tell me what the cut off age/year of birth is regarding this please?

I also prefer comfort food, like stew & dumplings, baked potatoes, rice pudding, steamed puddings, that sort of thing. IME its also cheaper. Anyone else find that the food bill goes up in summer ? - and I've never really been able to figure out why. Salad is cheap, you would have thought.:(

Cor yea I love good ole stew and dumps whatever the weather plus good ole puddings that stick by your ribs...(as my granny use to say):eek:0 -
On a more general note, OS can be hard. That's why we all got seduced by modern living in the first place. It does take a lot more work and effort and energy doesn't it ? And it does get us all down at some point or other. We get overtired, hurt yourself, ache, feel resentment, bad temper. I know I do often. And then I tell myself to get over myself. :rotfl::rotfl: Keep on keeping on everybody ! xxxSo, how come we are allowed back in OS? Christ, I don't know what I can and can't say let alone where we all are these days! :rotfl:
My word you lot can talk! Welcome to all the newbies who've jumped onboard the crazy train today:j
I was out most of the day today, DS2 had a football tournament, they got knocked out in the semi finals but by the team who won the tournament, and that was the only game they lost. And he scored a goal!
Went to Asda afterwards and saw a lot of price rises on things I buy regularly. Asda's own brand Sosmix and burger mix has gone up in the last year from 68p to 79p two weeks or so ago, to 82p today! Its still a cheap alternative to meat, and for us as veggies its still worth it, but I consider a 20% increase in price in five months to be too much! The price of organic eggs is creeping up too, but they have them on one of their rollback thingies so we'll see how long they are at that price. The Organic chicken which I bought for OH and the boys to make kebabs and sandwiched for school/work was also about 14p more per kilo than a fortnight ago, which isn't a lot on a single chicken but all those pennies add up.
I need to be more proactive about my meal planning next week, and get some soup on, I think. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0 -
I live in between Minsmere and Dunwich/ Sizewell ,Yep Bury is about 40 mile from me down on the A14..........im deep in the countryside.....:D WMF where were you living in Suffolk? please
Ah right. Have been to Dunwich, but it's a lot of years back now, when I was a child. We used to go to Walberswick and Aldeburgh too (I lived in Norfolk near Diss as a child) Small world eh?jackieglasgow wrote: »Went to Asda afterwards and saw a lot of price rises on things I buy regularly. I've noticed prices have shot up particularly over the last month.
Also, has anyone else noticed, that when you do an online order with A$da now, they never state how long the "Rollback" is going to be for? Or how long a Special Offer is on for? They used to, when I first started ordering online, but as it stands now, it makes it damned difficult to budget your online shop with them because you never know when the special offers are going to end, or when the rollbacks are going to roll forward. They seem to make it up as they go along. At least Te$co state when their offers are going to end.Aug11 £193.29/£240

Couldn't agree more. I think a lot of the wintery comfort foods lend themselves to stretching, batches of stew that make endless leftovers. Whereas , I find anyway, summer meals tend to be a single meal's worth only...such as grilled meats and salads, quiches ect. Hope that made sense.Sanity is the playground of the unimaginative!0 -
I agree about the summer foods not being so filling etc I always add a jacket potato or boiled potatoes/potato salad to our summer salads and have plenty of fresh bread/rolls etc to hand to bulk things up a bit.
I've had to do a tesco top up this week as there are some things I have to get we only like from MrT and I've noticed some stupid prices especially on their fresh veg.
I wanted a cauli to do a Jamie recipe but it was nearly £2  so I bought 2 x 1kg frozen brocolli and cauli which will do the job just as well.
I usually freeze 'high value' veg and fruit plus some special offer meat at this rate we'll be freezing caulis and turnips :rotfl:0 -
Crikey, I'm feeling soo behind and its only Febuary. I had SUCH plans to maximise my veg production this year after finally repairing the greenhouse and building a huge raised bed. But I've yet to get a single seed anywhere near soil...methinks I need to get myself in gear.
Don't you fret, Beccah, anything you plant will catch up quickly. The only things which need to be got ahead with now are those which need a L-O-N-G growing season in this country, such as aubergines, chillies and peppers. And you have a greenhouse, so don't worry about it. Unless you live in the Frozen North, of course.
I thought about sowing a load of seeds this morning when it was sunny, but then it went all chilly and I couldn't be bothered:rotfl:0 -
I now have a lovely big window in my kitchen, what can I grow in pots?:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0
