Picked my car up from the garage and it has cost me £165 -as the brakes were totally worn out...scary that I didnt know until yesterday so I dont be-grudge the money as our safety is far more important.
I will just have to be extra careful for the next 4 weeks so that I can save up for the MOT and put the insurance onto my monthly budget (as I usually pay for it on one go). I suppose it all depends on how high its going to go and I hate having to pay extra per month!

Re the winter fuel payment I dont understand why its too expensive to means test , or link it to the state pension or something? .I get very cross about the way some poor elderly have to go without heating or eating and far too many die each year from the cold weather... and with winters like the last 2 combined with high fuel cost they really have no chance!
JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200:D FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

Going back on topic, did I read in one of these budget links somehwere that more rises in gas & elect are to come this autumn ???
  • We have had our hyundi for about 12/13 years and I think it was about 3 years old when we got it. I don't understand how but it seems to sail through the MOT's. We also used to have a second car that wsa always bigger and better but we are down to the one car now and manage well without a second one.

Had today off work as DD2 was off school with a vomitting bug. I used the opportunity of an extra day off work to spring clean the kitchen including the windows. Feel like I have really achieved something. Had the washing out on the line so that will be easier to iron than the stuff thats still here from last week.

Just need to crack the ironing pile tonight.

Hairdresser comming tomorrow, I've got a grey stripe all around my hairline and parting thats getting scary. Will feel a million dollars after she has been ( I always do).
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Unfortunately yes, it's in this MSE article. :( Just what we need - especially if we do end up having a colder winter again.

Oh Lord I hope not. My electricity statement came in yesterday (we pay by direct debit so it was info only) and they have predicted that we will spend £1300 on electricity in the coming year)

:eek::eek: That £1300 is all our electricity which incudes our "eco" heating system. On top of that for heating our logs are mostly free but we've spent £160 on wood this winter and £10 per week on coal from November until March. Scary stuff.

The only gas we have is the cooker which averages out at £40 per quarter.

Hey ladies - haven't been around for a few days - work has been so manic I've just resorted to basic functions when I get home! And we cremated my Auntie today, so I've been trying to spend a bit of time with my Dad.

Am going to go back and catch up, but wanted to send a hug to everyone that needs one - I'm hoping I'll find out if Gailey's absence was of the tiny bundle kind!

Have you seen the advert for the SuperScrimpers on Channel 4? Are any of the ladies on it one of our very own OSers?
