Megawd!
Sorrees - maybe you've put in your posts as to why these all-nighters are happening and I've missed it somehows.
So - my first question is why are the all-nighters happening?
They just doPressure of deadlines etc, the hazards f working in an international office across time zones in his field of work. It is standard for his profession t opt out of EU work hours directives....and would be impossible to work as part of cohesive international team with out the hours at some points. Often he COULD go home (well, where he sleeps during the working week) for a couple/few ours but then the commute would bite into that that so he'd rather get the full tme of that asleep so just kips where he's sitting....(last night he slept for a while in the first aid area because the office was otherwise almost empty, so he got about four hours sleep, where as f he'd gone home he would have had three hours ish). ATM he has a deadline pertaining to Japan, and obviously the Japanese part of the team have got worse to deal with now and so the work they would have done bounces back to teams elsewhere in the world, in this case DH. He gets paid fairly for the hours though, and usually his employers will ''recognise'' it when a weeks been really bad and he'll get an unexpected long weekend, and he enjoys his work. Its not ALL that unusual in his field tbh, I just want to try and help him get through as easily as possible.

Wow he's hard worker. :T
I don't think practically there is much you can do for him as he is getting good meals etc but I would perhaps encourage him to go home tonight to sleep in a decent bed and on his next long weekend I would spoil him rotten.:D:p
Best of luck for today Redlady. x0 -
Little !!!!!! has been keeping me awake since 4.30 am so I'm loading up on carbs and caffeine. Also have a toothache. Have been diligently using my tooth protector since I got it in January (stress from IB was causing me to grind my teeth) and it had fixed the non-specific toothache which the grinding had caused but this seems like it might be a new thing. Had a check up in Jan and all seemed OK but I have some spectacularly complicated dentistry in my lower back teeth and suppose something could've gone wrong underneath the overlay or the crown. Will wait a few days before seeing dentist in case it's a false alarm.
Redlady Sending you good vibes about the house, hope it all comes good for you, you deserve a break. Isn't fuel a wicked price? I don't have a car but like everyone it impacts on everything which I buy. Car owners whom I know are totally horrified and rationing their journeys. Mum and Dad have a diesel and are paying over £6/ gallon. Telling them to come and see me on the bus with their OAP bus passes. If I go to see them I have to use an intercity coach (the regular bus service ended about 3 years ago) and have to pay £9 where I used to pay £2.80, against a background of nil increases in wages........debating if I could bike the 30 miles to theirs; pre ME the answer would have been YES but that's not viable anymore. Co-incidentally (heavy sarcasm in voice) the same journey by train, offered by the very same company, has the very same price, to the penny.......Zero competition.:( Ain't capitalism wunnerful?
It's interesting to realise how many redheads are on here, far more than the national average of 2% of the population seem to be posting on the OS thread......the genetics for red hair/ green eyes are recessive but the can suddenly pop up at random with a copper-haired child in a family with no recollection of ever having had red relatives. I'm the offspring of a strawberry blond and a brunette with reddish highlights when sunbleached. Heard somewhere that due to the recessive genetics both redheads and blondes may be extinct in a few thousand years....worrying thought. Nah, think the reddies at least would stage a comeback. I turned down a marriage proposal from a redheaded man 25 years ago, so I suppose I should've wed him and raised a clan of ginger scamps, but I just didn't fancy him.:rotfl:Gawd knows how I got a proposal from someone I barely knew (I never was a looker even at 20-something) but my love life has always been a comedy of (t)errors.:rotfl:
Piglet Thanks for the sage words of advice. I'm telling myself it ain't over til it's over IYKWIM, but I have 2 causes for hope; that the H.O. said he didn't seem particularly bothered about losing his tenancy and that he's a youngster and seems thick, so hopefully he'll have neither the interest nor the aptitude to contest. I'm assured that as he's an intro tenant, and that the Other Council Department is leading in the action and that their stuff cannot be dismissed by a judge as "subjective" (i.e. if he owes rent he owes rent) that the judge has no discretion other than to rule for Full Possession. The only fly in the ointment could be that the correct procedures haven't been followed. Have to hope that the KillerShark knows her stuff but she's a veteran.
 Idiot Boy's court date is SuperGran's birthday. I plan to take her to the pub and get her riotous on her fave G & Ts. We may have good news, we may need to drown our sorrows....
((((Hugs to all))))Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Perhaps a roll-out type mattress thing to be kept at the office then? You could try looking in a futon shop to see what they have. I know I have spotted a single width roll-out or roll-up into a bundle futon type mattress at a reasonable price in a futon shop before now. He definitely needs some sort of mattress to put that sleeping bag on if there arent any beds in the office...
Has he got things like:
- kettle/toaster/mini-oven at work?
Maybe the curtains are thin or non-existent at the office? If so - something to deal with that and block light out - eg doing so in a personal way (ie sleep mask).0 -

Intro tenancy sounds good - should give you more power. I once famously (in our office!) lost a possession hearing where the tenant didn't even show up. The Judge STILL suspended the possession order because the tenant might have had a good reason for not showing up and might have had good reason for not paying her rent :rotfl: I got so much stick for that one! Fingers crossed....
Your dental appliance might need adjusting, I have one to deal with a TMJ issue and I can tell when it needs adjusting as my neck and shoulder pain comes back as well as the jaw pain. You might also have ground tracks into it which need to be polished out to rebalance it - with your stress levels it's worth getting the dentist to take a look at it!Piglet

A roll up mattress is something we have never thought of that really would enhance his life. I think he's finding floor sleeping less comfortable in his thirties than he did in his 20s. In fact....sleep comfrt all round is more important. For a while we shared a single bed, and he used to say he never wanted a full sized bed because he always wanted us to be squished up together.....we're considering a kingsized bed when we buy a new one:rotfl:.
He has access to kettle, coffee machine, microwave and his food is delivered to him in the evenings...he has a large choice but food delivery choices are either very honestly healthy, but not terribly sustaining on a long night, or a bit junky or just a bit un home cooked. He ends up eating a lot of Japenese food because he doesn't want to over do it with red meat and tries to avoid options like pizza. About once a week he'll have something like kleftico or steak and chips and salad. He eats a lot of raw veg and herbs through the day.
Thanks for the mattress idea. I'm going to suggest that to him later.0 -

Quick question (am about to start my shift) would what you said about my tooth guard apply as its a bendy latex-y type thingie (made to fit from a cast of my lower teeth)? It slots over the lower teeth to form a cushion if I try to grind on them when asleep.

LiR a self inflating camping mattress would be a good choice (NOT an airbed), you just unroll them and open the valves, then roll them back up to deflate.Piglet

My DD's yeargroup (90 pupils) has 19 redheads, so far in excess of the 2% average - I can only assume it's something in the water, although a set of triplets do push the numbers up a little - imagine having 3 little redheads........their poor mum is a bit on the grey side, can only imagine that they are feisty little so-n-so's!
I have to say that I think red is the most wonderful colour for hair - I'm a dark blonde, who goes lighter in the summer, and in the winter with the help of a few highlights, and my DH is a strawberry blonde. DD was a bright copper when she was born, but has now levelled out as a dark strawberry blonde. We also have a lot of redheads on my side of the family, so I feel we're doing our bit to continue the red gene. Its also incredibly difficult to get a natural effect with a red hair dye, which is probably why its such a highly prized colour. Go reds!!!! :T
On an OS note today, DH is back up the lottie planting more taters, I would join him, but a) its drizzling, and b) I really have to crack on with my essay, (3,500 words analysing a piece by Virigina Woolfmanaged only 270 so far.......:(
). I've also done some cleaning, driven largely by shame after reading 'confessions of a tired old styler'... and done a bit of a stock take on how much food I have stored away under my bed (answer: a lot!:o).
Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions about ways to reduce our meat consumption, and introduce some veggie meals
Lostinrates - I don't suppose you have any recipes you could share for the potato and egg curry, and the stuffed marrow? they sound delicious and also Mummysaver, you mention spicy beanburgers - are they homemade, and again, do you have a recipe to share? (or point me in the direction of where I could find one?)
GreyQueen: just keep thinking to yourself that one day Idiot Boys turn will come - maybe when he's older, he'll be subjected to the neighbours from hell, as well......I'm a great believer in what goes around, comes around. (probably a good idea to keep the lump hammer at the lottie for the time being though ).
Ok, have a nice day everyone- oh and redlady: hope all goes well today
JoDebts at their highest: £37,500
Hope to be debt free sometime in 2013

I found the potato and egg one on line rather than type it out, its a Madhur Jaffrey recipe, and excellent

I have been known, when v. low on prep time, to make it with bought chuncky chips.
Marrow....oh, I can't wait for summer! The thing is marrow is so despised it can be hard to convince people. I like it with a little bte left to it personally. Hard to give a recipe as its a bit of a bung it in recipe, but it would be something like this:
Make enough rice (any variety, using different rices rings the changes) for the number of people. Put the oven on to a medium heat (or if baking just use the spare space in the oven) In a frying pan, brown lamb mince, then add chopped onion and celery and whatever vegetables are about...an unloved salad tomato perhaps, some left over peppers...carrot,...add spicing to suit...always cinnamon for us, often a little cumin seed, maybe somehting like a ras el hanout mix..and some dried fruit: fr us its pretty much always apricot and prunes. It shouldn't be too dry...so may be a little stck, or a glass of wine or some vermouth...whatever is handy and taste appropriate. Maybe a chop in a bunch of coriander, or flat leaf parsely. Mix all this in with the rice. Cut a large marrow length ways and remove seeds, to make a hollow boat then put the stuffing in the cavity and heap it on top. If you have some, sprinkle with some pine nuts, or nuts. Put it in the oven till the marrow is cooked...don't over cook or it will be muchy yuck and loose its shape. It tastes ''healthy'' because the marrow is an uncompromising vegetable, but we like it with a vague midle eastern or north african vibe, we find it tasty.0
