Hi all
dont post here very often, but do love this thread, just found it again:). It is very heplful and supportive, with lots of useful info. Oh and I are ok jobs wise at present, BUT we could both be at risk in the future. I have always been an OS type of person, but am making a real effort to cut back and save as much as poss, just incase worst does happen.
We have very few debts, but do try and help out our families, who are struggling a bit at present. The really sad thing is, I think things are going to get much worse, before they get better.:(

Me too glad to be back thanks to Jackie,:T but woa up abit you lot its now gone on 9th page its gonna be hard catching up if I have 3 or 4 hours away.......:p.....
Been really wet here all day, but I did manage a walk down the beach it was a bit gale force though:eek:...............had nice roast chicken for tea with the veg etc, it seems to still be one of the cheapest roast dinners , get a good sized hen for about £4.00 that will feed 4 people , I notice red meat is very highly priced still.................ive been living off the freezer really sice christmas, its surprising just how many meals each day you can make out of a freezer, it wont hurt to run it low, that way you dont let anything go out of date...............
I notice a lot of foods have shot up in price, as I expect you all do to........but we have to eat..............
Good job my husband is not fussy over what I cook and never turns it away so we dont get much waste.....ive got 27 hungry happy hens to feed so that make light work out of kitchen scraps.............I take my large bucket to a local restaurant on Sundays and they fill it up with all left over scraps from roast dinners at lunch time , so my girls get a roast dinner too on a sunday......:T...they never complain either...:jyou want to see them with a huge batter pudding and running away with it so they dont have to share it with another hen ,:D:D..........oh I do get a lot of fun out of my hens watching their antics.......:D...Okay once again nice to be back with old friends......:T0 -
Before i started using MSE and found the forums i was feeling quite low about things. Was being very self-pitying as in "it's not fair I've been through all this before"
I was cutting back but doing it very begrudgingly and in a hard done by sort of way.
Then i started to lurk around the threads and realised not just that i wasn't alone but that that i could turn things around and make this time into a positive experience.
Now i enjoy making good cheap meals and pride myself on not throwing anything away. My outlook has changed and i have stopped being a miserable whinging old sod and got my act together. Thanks everyone.
That's one of the things I love most about these threads (and OS in generaly), it's all very matter of fact, there is always someone who been there and got the tshirt and can give good sensible advice. Very little wringing of hands, just good old fashioned advice like my dear old Nan would have given me if she'd still be around.youngoldlady wrote: »Just been reading the thread with great interest. Can I join please? :j:j

My 48 hour pass from my RL is half elapsed. I am out of Provincial City and back at Home Town. My mobile has died on me; it's a 4 year old Nokia, very basic model, and I don't know what to do, so seeking advice pls? It's gone completely dead, worked perfectly the day before and had plenty of charge on it. Is this a dud battery, do people think? Sorry to be a muppet but I am what you might call a bit of a late adopter (aka Luddite) and only got my first mobile (this one) in Jan 2007. Strange how curiously cut-off I feel without it.:(
On the plus side, half an hour's fast footwork in a big Mr T saw me emerge with 48 loo rolls, 6 tubes tomato puree, pkt chicken drumsticks and 6 kilos porridge and with vouchers have spent £4.21 on all of the above. Smug smug smug:).
Have seen my relations and been forced to accept a fishslice, a new pair of socks, a bottle each of shampoos and conditioner and a full roast dinner today. Simple joys.........Plus Auntie gave me some rubber gloves which fell off the back of a pallet, IYKWIM.
Re-sewed 13 buttons on my new c.s work blouse which was a bore but obviously why it had ended up on the discount rail.
And tomorrow, whisper it who dares........BOOOOOOOOOTSAAALEE !Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Goodness, a couple of days without logging on and I can't believe how much there has been to catch up on.
Mardatha, I shall pinch your Costco idea and stock up for one group per visit. It sounds organised, which always cheers me up as I'm so hopeless at being organised.
I've had a pleasingly frugal/OS day today. I got a lovely black M&S hooded top for £3 in the CS. It doesn't look like it's been wornThen while I was at my aqua fit class, DH mooched off to a table top sale and came back with a bread cookery book for me.
Currently defrosting a chicken for tomorrow's lunch, which should do us for another two meals after that plus a couple of sandwiches, so I'm hoping not to spend much on food this week.0 -
Hi all:j:jJackie thanks for rounding us all up here, even though I do straddle both OS and the Arms[STRIKE]i'm a tart like that[/STRIKE]
Love these kind of homely, feel good threads.I am living as cheaply as I can, as am not working at the mo, and make a lot of weird and wonderful HM veggie meals, which OH hoovers up:p:p
Am also on several don't buy any clothes, toiletries etc threads, which spur me on , as I am a total spendaholic:eek::eek:
One of my happiest memories as a kid was going blackberrying, and I randomly have some bushes growing over my shed which have humungous berries:D:D
Can't wait for the car boots to start again here, as I need new clothes due to dramatic weight loss:D
Oh and me and OH planted loads of seeds yest, so are hoping for some free veggies this year:j:j"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Wow I go out for the day and you lot go wild and post loads!!! Have been looking at some houses online today and have spotted another potential if the first one doesnt work out. Been doing some forward planning etc but am exhausted as I am not sleeping properly.
Oh is glaring at me cos he has realised that all my stores will have to be moved - but on the plus side we wont need to buy food during the move/doing work on house period which will ease both the burden on time and money
Have decided against doing another approved food order yet.
Got to meal plan this week as my meals are all over the place - thinking of joining Nelskis challenge of a new recipe per week - especially as my copy of Jamies 30 min meals arrived yesterday.
Need a little advice - DD4 is having a birthday in a few weeks and we have found a magician who will do some of the entertainment - she wants 20 guests and I am thinking its better to have them here and save the money on hiring a hall but OH is going white at the idea - how bad can 20 4/5 yr olds be??0 -
I have an ancient Nokia mobile that tends to faint. I take the sim card out and give it a wipe, shove it back in and then give the phone a good dunt on the corner of the worktop0
