Following on from the above, please let us know if in the reply to you HSBC finished their letter stating that they were closing off the complaint and in effect issuing a deadlock reply. Your case can only , and will only be looked at by the FOS if HSBC have decided that this is their final reply.

Can you also confirm if you have been declined credit from another provider, as this would be a possible avenue providing your credit rating is not too bad.

A leaflet detailing which CRAs HSBC use should be readily available in branch, so you can go into any HSBC to obtain.

    Hope this helps.

Sorry to be slow replying further and I can see that Consumerist has given you some good advice.

I would add the following ...
    1. I think you should persue HSBC to help you understand the actions they have or have not taken. This should also mean that the person who did act on your file understands the distress this has caused you both, when in fact you were trying to help yourselves. I would suspect that no AP has in fact been set up but you should rightly have this confirmed in writing and if an AP has been set up incorrectly against your name the Bank will ahve to remove this from your credit file. The Bank CAN see this now even though it maybe too early for you to 'see' on your credit file through agencies.

2.The leaflet I mentioned will tell you for certain which agencies the Bank use and this is key as they will receive the information first.

    3. The call will be recorded if you can specify an approximate time and of course the date. They would have to provide this info to the FOS and if they cannot it would count against them, although as I first mentioned the FOS will not deal with any customer complaint before you have reached deadlock. I really believe that in moving this complaint forward you will get a better response from HSBC

    Hope this helps

Definitely worthwhile checking all three CRAs. If you've continued to make at least the minimum payment your credit history should be ok.
