Ebay advice needed please

I have an Ebay listing finishing on Sunday, for a mobile network topup voucher, this voucher is in its original packaging. The highest bidder has just emailed me, to ask if he wins the auction would i email him the code through Ebay, instead of mailing it, i don't mind emailing the code to him - but where do i stand regarding paypal, if he decides to chargeback for item not received.

Would you risk this? I'm really not sure what to do:undecided

Maybe you could email it and then post the hard copy on Monday by recorded post (depending on the value of the voucher).
  • I would suggest that. there is always that feeling after selling on Ebay until you get your feedback that the purchase hasnt been recieved.

I wouldn't risk it. You are only protected (through Paypal) for shipping tangible goods, as far as I'm aware. You need that proof of posting - or, better still, tracking number.

Don't do it. First off, are you sure the voucher's still valid? Some vouchers expire. Secondly, you'd not have a leg to stand on if he did a chargeback, since E-Bay frowns upon selling intangible items, which is what the auction'd become if you agreed to mail the code.
  • I quite like the first suggestion, email the code, but still post the actual voucher on Monday, so that i will have a tracking number.

Is anyone having problems with Royal Mail track and trace not updating. I posted a letter on tuesday (1st class recorded delivery) and track & trace is still saying they have my item and that its progressing through their system.......does it say this until they get a signature, or take it back to the depot, it needed to be delivered by today at the latest, i'm just wondering if it could have been delivered without a signature (as it was a normal letter), and still say 'progressing through our system'

Recorded never works for me either coming to my address or being posted by me.

waste of 74p. However in some areas I understand they do occasionally actually update the info online!

Scam avoid this buyer, he will use the voucher and then do a item not received claim. Even if you do mail it to him he will do a snad. If he needs a top up so bad why wait till Sunday. There is a thread about this exact same thing somewhere on here.
  • Hi OP if the buyer wants the code by email this actually gives you more protection.
The reason so many people used to like to sell vouchers this way before ebay stopped it is because it bypasses ebay and paypals claim procedure and because scammers used this method to sell vouchers and get the money for the voucher back later.
Just email the buyer the code and explain that you will keep the actual voucher for 180 days then if a not as described case is opened or a chargeback is processed phone the network and say that you have a top up voucher that does not work when you tried to use it.
They will ask you to send them the voucher with a covering letter when they recieve the original voucher and covering letter from you if the code has been used the phone that recieved the top up will be blocked and you will recieve a refund cheque from the network.
