EDF Dual Fuel Online V5 ending, migrate to another providr avoiding exit cost?
Options
EDF have written to me stating that from 1st April 2011 I will move onto their standard tariff for bothe elec & gas. Clearly this is more expensive and I've done all the comparison work and if I was to move today I would migrate to another supplier. My question is this.
EDF state in their t&c's that if you move before 31.3.11 they reserve the right to charge £25 for both elec and gas as a cancellation fee.
How can I go about moving provider from 1.4.11 to avoid this cost?
This practice seems a little underhand if you cannot infact move until the date in question as it will undoubtedly take a while to change providers.
I'm sure others have this same issue. Is there a way to make this simple by moving to another provider from a set date?

Wait until 27 days before the end of the tariff. Apply then. That is, on the 5 March. As you are obliged to provide 28 days notice this gives you good reason to object if they play silly. This still leaves you with the cooling off period with the new supplier (a week or two) but to factor that in is too big a gamble.0

Kim,
Superb, thanks for the quick response. Makes you wonder how these companies rely on consumers apathy. Date in the diary!'Crime can't crack itself'0 -
Please note that this is just safer and gives you a solid defence - EDF could still charge you up front and you may have to go through a rigmarole to claim the money back.0

I know this thread is a couple of weeks old but I am in the same boat, my online version 5 ends on 31.03.2011 and I am looking at switching soon.
Have you done an online comparison to see who works out cheapest for you?
I was surprised to see it will be cheaper for me to have gas from Ebico and electric from SSE (Scottish & Southern Energy).Cashback earned

I found that EDF online version 8 is cheapest in my case but i think its all dependent on the area you reside.
Try entering version 8 into a comparison site out of interest to double check0 -

this is EDF's cheapest tariff at the min. Thats what i've just joined even tho BG could save me £3.00!0 -
If I was on Version 8 I would pay £20 a year more than I do now.
If I switch to seperate suppliers I will pay £15 a year more but will benefit from cashback for switching so could in theory pay less in total.Cashback earned

Looks like I'm back off to British Gas when it ends. I had no end of bother with the when on an E7 meter but EDF changed it for me so hopefully all will be well next time.0
