Advice on new flooring for kitchen

My gas cooker needs replacing and I was thinking of taking the opportunity to have new flooring in the kitchen. The kitchen is fitted but the white goods are free standing. It will be quite a hassle as I will have top move washing machine and fridge/freezer and gas cooker. Can anybody advice what will be the best for the kitchen floor, tiles or good vinyl? Any recommendations of types of flooring will be much appreciated? Thanks

  • Highly subjective question. Personally I would go with tiles. Choose ones with a smooth flat surface so there are no dirt traps. Tiles are durable, easy to keep clean and available in a vast range of colours, styles and prices. Downside is they are cold and totally unforgiving when things are dropped on them. China has a very low survival rate.
  • Tiles won't rip if you need to move your freestanding appliances for whatever reason! At the end of the day, if your kitchen floor is concrete below whatever flooring you choose, china is likely to break regardless.
  • Tiles tiles tiles.
